    Folks were scoffing at the Hawkins trade last year. It's a minimal deal to see if Benitez still has anything in the tank.

    36 doesn't seem that old for a relief pitcher. Same age as Hawk. He had an above-average ERA as recently as 2006. Wonder what happened to the guy? I remember he used to throw some serious heat.

    I just spoke to someone (low level) in the Astros organization and told me this acquisition is the Astros looking to the future. They do not expect him to contribute in 09 and maybe mot in 2010 either. However they do think he will be an asset in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and that is why they gave him a 5 year contract with a team 1 year option.

    Why would anybody give a 36 year old pitcher a 5 year deal? Even if he returns to form and pitches very well for us, he will be past done by the time he is 41.

    Jason Lane? I don't think he's still in baseball.

    If you are referring to the Astros owner, he is Drayton McLane. How can we expect you to have good info when you cannot tell me who the owner is?
