I'm almost 40, I've watched pro hoops since 78 or so. That's when they used to show the finals on tape delay. I agree that there was a time when they were all in for the most part, but now its more about getting by. CD or whoever was in charge failed to surround tracy and yao with the talent they needed to really compete for a ring and now yrs later, its almost too late. I think its too late and they have a non versitile roster to boot. Has the talent gotten better? Yes, but its not good enough to sustain and climax as the Yao-Tracy train goes downhill. The spurs looked up and saw that as duncan and manu gets older, they needed better, younger players. Look, many will not agree and I really don't care. I will still watch and record every rockets game like always. I'm just ready for the rebuild. I watched portland, utah, and orrlando get rid of their best players and within 4 yrs, they're back stronger. Houston fans have seen this twice and we still keep watching and supporting, just don't jerk our chain. It won't hurt long and in a few yrs after La,Orlando,Sa,Cleveland, orr Boston have won a few title and are older, the rockets will be ready to roll into contention.

You're just wrong about this. Look at all of the money he is sinking into the research and development of the team. These aren't short term, knee jerk solutions and they aren't cheap. The scouting, statistical models and development side of the team is more advanced than any team. They have also a lot of assets and cap flexibility coming up. It's all about max level players stepping up and ours haven't. Would it make any sense for the Rockets to go after Richard Jefferson (to use your Spurs analogy) with Yao out for the year? Come on now.

Les's money has gone to waste, since all that those stats didn't tell him to get rid of Tracey and Yao. He could have paid me a dollar to say they would probably get injured again. I would have told him there is no hope for a ring, when you got $45 million in assets in street clothes. It doesn't take a genius to know, you blow up the team to look for a potential superstar in the draft.

All the fancy research and statistics are no good, if it can't tell you that Yao and T-mac are injury prone.

If you disagree with the personnel choices, criticize management. I'm just saying we should give the players that overachieved some credit.

les has spent a lot of money on taylor, budinger, anderson, and pops. IMO, i still can't figure out why we signed pops. i understand we need size, but is he really worth it. i think not.

I'm a couple of decades older than you, so when you were 8 years old, garnering your wisdom, I'd been a grown man for a long time, had just got married to a chick I'd been living with for 4 years, and had been following the Rockets since they drafted Elvin Hayes. Yeah, before they moved to Houston. I'm a fan and I don't pretend to have a vast amount of knowledge about the game, but I've seen a lot. What I'm seeing from you is ironic, because to me, you come across as a bitter old man, when I'm closer to the right age than you are. I don't get it. You're like one of those kids that gets his jollies from tearing up his presents at Christmas, instead of enjoying them.

    I'd rather enjoy them.

I agree with two sides of school of thought. One we have to realize the potential of some players on our team by recognizing the 7 game push to beat LA. That means depth. Two I dont see it as a moral victory. I dont care for moral victories or excuses anymore as a Houston fan. i want them to push to make any and every move they possibly can to win a Championship. Nothing more and nothing less. i dont care if we get rid of Yao, Tmac, and get Boozer and the much hated Dereck Fisher to do it. I dont care if they traded Battier for Zach Randolph or Eddie Curry if those guys take the ring for us and Battier doesnt. The only thing i care about is if this team recognizes who and when to move certain players to get to those goals. What i would absolutely hate is to keep paying the Tmacs of the league or Yaos if they cant stay healthy just to keep the fans happy in China or make a buck. I dont care that Battier is a fan favorite if it means we pass up a player like Ben Gordon or Joe Johnson just because we want to keep Battier. Whoever I think makes this team better I would move anybody to get to that Championship. Just like LA did with Shaq. Just like the Rockets did to get Clyde Drexler. I dont think this team can win a Championship with the current players even if healthy now. That means its time to find some new talent. Yao and Tmac probably have less than 1% chance every season of both making it through a whole season uninjured. Which means maybe both have to go with those low odds. Some of just have to face it for the sake of building a Champion sooner than later. I hope Les allows our GM to do whatever he wants from now on and not hold onto certain players as untradeable anymore.

    Nobody might feel me....

Pops might make this offseason feel better. I was thinking about buying more
pop corn while watching the rockets, because of fustrastion. But you know looking at this team, it is so athletic, no wonder why darel morey doesnt do any kind of trade or something. I mean who wants 60 year old Camby? I think that overall the rockets will have a fun and uptempo team to watch. Playoffs are not it will be fun. Gaby! wanna suck? j/k

Not much risk in signing him. It is not as if He signed a multi year mid level contract. The team needs all the help it could get especially up front and if Morey thinks that He is the best of the remaining big men out there then We just have to give him the chance to prove his decision was/is correct.

I don't totally agree with your standpoint here, mainly because Yao is/was never going anywhere.

As far as McGrady goes, you're right - they should have probably traded him when they lost to Utah the second time. But instead, they reloaded and ultimately wasted Artest and a healthy year from Yao.

Oh yeah, this is a thread about Pops. Sorry for the derail. Umm...well...the guy has a cool name...

Someone will have to be moved in order to sign him,if it's a significant player without getting anyone capable in return,it will hurt us.

    This is idiotic.

    Bosh is a perennial all-star.
    Pops is a D-league scrub.

Yes, but there are a lot of ifs. The speculations can also shift towards what if the player moved gets the team a significant player? The point is Pops' salary is not that big to hurt the cap of the team. He is a player who can possibly contribute. If it is just a roster spot then Im sure there is a player in the team that can be waived. ;)

Actually, i'm a happy soul who really likes competition. I do see the team as overacheivers which is another word for undertalented. You never here about talented teams overachieving. I guess Deckard like I said earlier, what's the end game? Unless some drastic moves are made, the rockets aren't going to be players in the 10 free agency. So that means the rockets, will be resigning Tracy and hoping Yao comes back healthy next year. How long before the wheel fallss off again? I hope it doesnt , but history tells me it will. I guess its just frustrating to see a team like the lakers that was under us surpass us so quickly. They're hoisting trophies and we're signing pops. I mean, Powell can't get off the lakers bench and he's as good as landry who plays big minutes for the rockets. People make fun of Cuban, but every year they're putting high talent on the floor. Have they won the title? No, they've been to it and that doesn't mean much either, but they just reloaded for a run.

Durvasa, we have had discussions about adding players and such, and I've seen pops play a few times, he's not any better than petro. He's like a landry clone minus the mid game. We just keep collecting 6'8 pf on this team minus Yao and Deke. I mean, I would take Amir Johnson over any of ourr centers right now. Maybe Morey has something else planned, I guess we will see.

Hm, he is actually pretty damn athletic. He's got passion or a Loud mouth, loud voice, and inexhaustsble vocal chords either way he's a good sport w energy. He's in my opinion could be another no stat all star or a trade piece (Who else is on the bring Amare over here asap boat?). Plus he's an upgrade to Hayes and Dorsey. We have a good front court coming I this year and a great one the next.
