Could the signing of Pops Mensa-Bonsu means we're going to get Ramon Sessions?

Brooks has played better over longer span of time. He has playoff experience to boot. He managed to have good games when the Lakers had a game plan to stop him. Sessions is one of those guys that caught some people off guard and played very well when starting for an awful team. Remember a few years back when Flip Murray came in when Ray Allen was hurt and averaged 22 a game. Same deal. He's good but his stock is inflated right. In no reality is he better than Brooks.

Here arethe good pgs in today's NBA.
    Deron Williams 10.7 assists
    Tony Parker 6.9 assists
    Rajon Rondo 9.2 assists
    Billups 6.4 assists

Scoring is just another option when they run the offense.

Brooks can't pass at all, scoring is his only option
Brook's assist numbers make him, no more than a 6'0" SG that takes the ball out of Yao and T-Mac's hands.

Sessions scoring is not a big handicap as passing is for Brooks.

Brooks averaged 11.2 pts and 3.0 assists last season. Brooks averaged 11.6, 14.9, and 9.9 pts from Feb-April. Brooks averaged 3.7, 3.6, and 2.5 pts from Feb-April.

Sessions averaged 12.4 pts and 5.7 assists, last season. He improved through out the season, with Feb-April being his strongest. He scored 18.5, 13.2, and 14.0. in February, March, and April. He also had 7.4, 7.0 and 10.0 in those same respective months.

His scoring may be a tiny handicap, but he blows Brooks out of the water with his passing.

That was for 3 weeks. Flip is another undersized SG in the same mold as Brooks. :) I could have told you that those guys don't work out.

why would we bring in a starting point and not send out one of our points? We'd be wasting talent at the PG spot with our 3 young points, one of them would get the short end of the stick...plus, the bucks just signed Warrick, they need a more traditional PF, not another undersized athlete in Landry.

For depth, that's why there are 15 roster spots, 3 for each position.

I wouldnt mind seein this scenario go down... but the one i'm waiting for is Dorsey+Cook+cash for a 'decent' 7 footer (maybe 6'11) to split time with Anderson...

We have a better option at PG than either Brooks or Sessions. His name is Kyle Lowery.

True, but there's less pure speculation going on there and I just read the entire damn thing.

I tend to agree with those who think Landry's gone for the usual reasons: he has good trade value, I do think there was disappointment in his lack of significant improvement last year and we just have too many 6'9ish guys.

But for this season conventional wisdom is probably changing weekly within the Rockets organization, so I offer my bizarro thought of the offseason:

What if Morey has a deal in place for Battier and he truly wants to try Landry as our starting 3?

    Cons:

    1. Not even worrying about who we deal Battier for, this means Morey simply doubts TMac will be ready to play to start the season and I have hope.

    2. Landry did slightly extend his shooting range last year, but gave no impression he'll ever have enough to make him an ideal candidate to be a 3.

    3. Defensively Landry's mistakes may become more exposed this year without 7'6 guy around, and the thought of him chasing wings on the perimeter is just scary.

    Pros:

    1. Landry will score, and we're going to need it badly. I love Shane, but I really believe this season he's going to be an actual liability for the first time in his career.

    2. Landry will be a matchup problem that could be a net positive. He's quick enough to dart inside and his rebounding alone may be enough to offset some of his defensive deficiencies.

    3. Landry can run. I don't know how good we're going to be on the break, but if we're as committed to it as we sound he's definitely a guy you want on the court as much as possible.

    4. We can maximize his trade value. More points, more rebounds, more ESPN moments that we remember from his rookie year.

All in all, this is far from ideal. But then again, welcome to the '09-'10 season.

Brooks looks not better than Sessions only because his scoring ability is not that good.

If Brooks can shoot close to 50%, or he can play his game like what he did in the playoffs and road games, he will be a better PG than Sessions. Brooks got that potential. Brooks' contribution is far more than what he is being paid, $1M.

If $1M can get us Sessions, let's do it.

It's a WASTE of depth. You've got 3 starting point guards. Not all 3 can get significant minutes. Yes, there is such thing as a waste of depth. We have a big hole at SG, and trading landry away leaves a hole at the back up PF spot. Bonsu is only signed for one year and he isn't a sure thing yet. Neither is Dorsey.

Having 3 point guards is fine, yes you need depth just incase, but the team is better off having that third stringer being a cheaper pick up, who knows his limited role, and won't be affected by less playing time.

I like the Rockets' current point guard situation. Lowry and Brooks are both young and provide different skillsets to the team. Brooks is a great shooter and can get to the paint almost at will. Lowry is a good setup man and plays defense. I'd take Brooks over Sessions any day. The Rockets NEED offense and Brooks is one of the only players that can carry the offense for stretches.

As much as I like Lowry..................Sessions is better and we need a point like Sessions to run this team. Sessions assists/40 minutes blows Lowry away and Brooks isn't even on the radar. I would trade Landry and Lowry and an expiring for a re-signed Sessions at the MLE. Then you have Sessions and Brooks out there in your speed backcourt you are unstoppable defensively. Mark it down. Sessions is way better than Lowry.

Not too much IMO. He isnt really much better than Brooks or Lowry. He is more of the traditional point guard. I think he ranks about the same as Jarrett Jack, and Chris Duhon.

6'3", 23, and says he has never swallowed a pill (per NBA free agent tracker). He's a fast, slashing talent, and taller than our points by a little, but I'm not sure how much of an upgrade he'd be. From what I've read about him--only seen him play a few times--he's another athletic PG without a reliable three-ball in his arsenal. If Kyle's been practicing his three-point shooting this off-season, I wouldn't give up anything for Ramon; if not, Ramon might be a slight upgrade over Kyle.

I like Kyle and AB, and wouldn't mind if they stay on our squad for the rest of their careers. I suspect Morey's angling for Rubio, if he's looking to upgrade the PG position-- with a little encouragement from Les. Think marketing.
