Mutombo was the backup center for all those years you claim Morey never listened. The season nor training camp hasn't even started yet and your proclaiming the rockets center position as the worst in the league. :D I would let them set their roster first before passing judgement during the summer.

Without a doubt. Pops is better then Ramos. It would have been perfect if He had the height of Ramos. :)

Not sure if this has been posted, but it includes a lot of commentary from coaches, announcers, and Pops himself.

I have stayed away from this thread because getting caught up in offseason rumors has taken too much of my time in the past. Because of that, I haven't really looked into Pops in any detail until just now. From what I see in his videos, he has potential to be a very nice player. It's not just the fact that I'm watching highlights, but I can see that he has a feel for the game that a lot of big guys lack. He can put the ball on the floor for a dribble or two in order to maneuver around a defender, or on the break. That's a huge plus for a team that, outside of David Andersen, doesn't have another player that is truly over 6'8".

His numbers in 19 games with the Raptors last season weren't great, but in the 6 games where he played between 20 and 30 minutes (averaged 22.5), he put up very respectable averages of 11.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals on .471 from the field and .701 from the line. The FG% could be higher for a player of his size, but that generally comes with increased minutes.

All in all, I'm excited about the possibility that he presents.

Isn't Pops another version of Dorsey, a raw undersized 6'8-6'9" big that is known for hustle, instead of the box score?

he isn't really as big as joey 240 compared to 275 pounds, making him only available for the PF spot
    he is quicker than dorsey
both can't really hit free throws but are improving and they rebound well enough
they are raw to this game

I haven't been through this whole thread, but this sounds like 'positioning' to have a back-up in place should a deal come up. It's like thinking a couple of moves ahead in a chess game. It would just give you more flexibility for future deals.

True. It looks like an insurance move. A move that would give the team so flexibility on the front court. Moving another front court player could be at stake. On the other hand, It is a low risk move so the consequences aside from losing a roster spot is minimal.

He's 6'10...and we made it pretty far last year relying on hustle and defense.

Alot of people seem to be underrating Landrys' value to our team. You're talking about a big that has played some very good ball for the Rockets....the 15-20 foot consistent jump shot...the hustle....finishing at the rim etc. The only reason I feel it'll be ideal to trade him now is because of his value at a cheap price (3mil). His party definitely wont accept anything less than 5 mil a year when his contract is up. Another reason is Scola played great for us last season...and is probably going to be even better this season....taking about 30 - 35 minutes of the PF position....and Landry, I believe, deserves more PT than he's probalby going to get this season. We're also going to have to be able to re-sign Scola when his contract is up...(I wonder how much he's going to be seeking)

Getting Sessions would be great....but who would be the odd man out at the pg position? Would you rather have Brooks scoring? Or Lowrys' playmaking abilities w/ no fear of attacking and finshing at the rim? Who cares right? Bring on Sessions!

Anyway, I'm exciting about bringing Pops to the Rockets. I remember watching him play in the summer league for Dallas a couple of years ago....when San Antonio waived him, I was really hoping the Rockets would pick him up... Alot of people don't think so, but we're going to have a pretty good team next year....with Ariza, and Pops, Hayes, Scola, Landry (If he doesn't get traded) and last but not least, Battier...we have alot of hustling, scrappy players that will tire teams out...that seems not to worry about how much they're gettng paid when they're out there on the cout....it's just a party of their game...that's very rare.

He looks 2-3 inches shorter than 6'11.5" Chris Bosh on TV.

His predraft camp from 2005 and 2006, don't reflect 6'10" either.

    2005 Chicago Draft measurements

    6'7.25" height without shoes
    6'8.75" height with shoes
    7'0" wingspan
    8'9" standing reach

Apparently, he grew a 0.25" the next year.

    2006 Chicago Draft measurements

    6'7.5" height without shoes
    6'9" height with shoes
    7'0" wingspan
    8'9.5" standing reach

Ok let me switch that up....he's listed as 6'10....even though he does look shorter. I remember when Olajuwon was listed as a 7 footer...and he definitely wasn't 7 feet tall....or he would have been that much more viscious.

It's true that Dorsey has better standing reach at 8'11", but 8'9.5" is still decent.

Pops has a 1" higher standing reach than Chuck Hayes 8'8.5". Those long arms help Pops and Hayes to play bigger.

He reminds me of a Chris "BirdMan" Anderson type of player. Hopefully he can block some shots like him as well.

Yea he definetly plays above the rim and the rockets don't have alot of those types on the team.

What a bonus for the team if He could give the same effort and production like Chris Anderson. The team needs to rebound in order to play the running game so if Pops can contribute in this aspect of the game, the Rockets are in for a treat. Morey would be a genius.

if it works out he is still a genius because he stole scola from the spurs, and if pops doesnt work out, he is still a genius for using little money on an expiring contract. All I credit Morey on is at least its not Jake Tsakalidis.

One thing I admire about Morey is that he's putting together a team with players with heart, and passion....that hustles....that even when we lose games, the fans are still going to be appreciative, knowing, and seeing that the Rockets are going to play hard, and try their best...When you a put a team together full of hungry, active players...there's no way anybody can predict the outcome of the Rockets season. We've witnessed what they can do when the odds are against them. The Lakers were more talented than the Rockets were last year....but yet they still almost lost because they were lacking our hustle, our passion, and our will to win...EVERYTHING that we had/have. From the words of Phil Jackson, "Give us some f-in credit"

No, Morey wont win GM of the year this upcoming season....since everyone is viewing this offseason as a "dissapointment"....but if and when the Rockets make the playoffs this year, there's no reason why Aldeman shouldn't win coach of the year. They're probably facing the most adversity out of all the teams in the league. We woke the Lakers ass up in the playoffs last season...this year we'll catch em while they're sleeping.
