just because he signs another center does not mean Yao won't come back...i don't think Yao sees it that way...if the doctors clear yao and he is ahead of schedule he will coem back...the rockets are assuming Yao is out and that might be the more likely sceanrio so they are making moves accordingly..but if Yao is ready by April, I doubt Morey will say Yao can't come back, I signed Pops!!!

just seems that Yao is working awfully hard at rehabbing to just sit out until 2011....it seems he is motivated to come back this year..somethign is driving him to push him....

    Say it brother.

We should all believe Yao will come back this season... Regardless of what you believe, Morey going after Pops most certainly is NOT proof either way. That is just insurance. We've been greatly lacking in terms of backup centers in the past, and we could really use two with Yao being out for at LEAST most of the season.

Well, the way I see it, it's great that we're signing these possible prospects.
With Yao out, there's an opportunity for us to develop at least 2 solid backup centers for the future to back up Yao.
Plus, They're all different which will give us some different looks on both sides of the floor.
It also creates competition amongst them. They will only work harder and it will force them to add different aspects to their game instead of being simple specialists.

All right!!! Yea!! The sooner Yao comes back the sooner he can break our hearts with yet another season ending injury. I mean I like Yao, but we can never try to hitch our wagon to him again because it will always end in disappointment. He is too big for the bones in his feet. Unfortunately I doubt he will ever be totally healthy.

Safe and not sorry: We don't see him for another year. Regardless. He can do his pre-pre-season at China, then he'll be game-ready after the pre-season with the NBA.

Hopefully, the Rockets will not have a bad season, or even just make the playoffs, but we need this whole year to make more improvements to the team. This season would still be a waste without knowing WTF T-Mac is going to do, or not do for the team.

Have a good vacation, Yao. You deserve the rest since China and the NBA don't want to let you.

Thats how I see it too...Pops is just an insurance policy...it can only help us whether Yao comes back or not this season....I have to believe he will to keep me going this season...I have to leave some hope and I think its good for his teammates to think Yao could come back....if they know there is a chance that yao will be back for the playofffs, it might make them fight harder for a playoff spot knowing that if we get in, we could be contenders once again with Yao!!!
now that is some really good tasting Rocket Gatorade!! :)

i'm sure you guys have read Richard Justice's latest blog from August 28. It looks like I wasn't that crazy after all, was I?...maybe just a little...but i still believe!!!!

"August 28, 2009 Rockets could have both Yao, T-Mac back this season Remember you heard it hear first. Tracy McGrady could be ready by the first game of the regular season, and Yao Ming could be there for the final game. Yao has never been officially counted out of the 2009-2010 regular season. Considering the complexity of the surgical procedures on his left foot, the Rockets might decide not to let him play no matter what. However, given Yao's work ethic, if doctors clear him to return to the floor, that's exactly what he's going to do. ''We may have to slow him down,'' GM Daryl Morey said. Yao is handling this latest setback exactly the way you'd think this role model of professionalism would handle it. He's at Toyota Center most mornings around 8:30 to work on conditioning and to chat up the guys. And then he goes to the practice court, sits down in a chair and shoots dozens and dozens of shots. Regardless of how long he's gone, he doesn't want to lose the familiar feel of the basketball in his hand and the basket in his mind. If you need a reminder of why his teammates and coaches respect him so much, these morning shooting sessions join a long list. He's the perfect team player and also the hardest worker. ''We told him that when we get to the Finals we're going to run a play with him on the floor,'' Morey said. Speaking of hard workers, Tracy McGrady appears to have worked harder than ever before. He hired Chicago trainer Tim Grover, the man who became famous for his work with Michael Jordan. Grover is so demanding and so intolerant of slackers that it speaks volumes about McGrady that he was willing to extend himself in a way he never has before. He has told friends that he understands the Rockets no longer belong to him and Yao. At the beginning of this camp, they'll belong to Shane Battier and Luis Scola. They're the ones that led down the stretch last year with their hustle and smarts. When McGrady returns, he'll have to fit in, and he'll have plenty of bridges to mend. Some of his teammates don't believe he gave his best effort last season, and McGrady needs to win them back over. He's still young enough to be a very, very good NBA player. He has been cleared to do whatever his left knee will allow him to do. The Rockets have been told he's still not completely comfortable jumping off the knee, but with training camp still a month away, there's plenty of time to get there. It's impossible to know how good the Rockets are going to be. They'll be younger, faster and smaller than last season. It would be interesting to see how they played without McGrady. It will also be interesting to see if McGrady is willing to lose himself in the team. Wouldn't it be something if this turned out to be McGrady's finest hour, if he came back and played at a high level, and shared the ball and ran the floor and helped make everyone better? He's capable of doing all those things. We know this because we've seen it before. The Rockets might still end up fighting for a playoff spot, but if they got the big fella back around March, well, I'm getting chills thinking about it. I've got to go have a Diet Coke and a Twinkie and calm myself. "

i think everyone hopes that to be the case (most optimistic). but considering this was a very serious surgery, there is a good chance that even if yao "can" technically play, the rockets will hold him out. we all know that les WILL resign yao, so he will remain a huge investment after this year. unlike tracy, yao will be here for the rest of his career. so his foot is very important.

Morey has already indicated that even if Yao could technically suit up for the 2010 playoffs that they would probably have him sit out anyway, just to give him more healing time. In fact, the Rockets would be insane to do it any other way, so it really is time to put this little fantasy to rest, because it just isn't happening.
