This isn't about luck, it's just Morey adding another chair to the deck of the Titanic. Let me put it this way: Eric Dampier is the (so-called) starting center for the Dallas Mavericks. He is a complete non-entity on the court and a running joke up here (actually it's more of a plodding joke since he really doesn't run up and down the court per se). The Mavs are desperate to move him and would gladly take back used chewing gum, pocket lint and an old lottery ticket in exchange. And as bad as Dampier is, he's light-years ahead of this guy. What Morey has done is secure 6 more fouls to use against the opposing team's center.

Additional front court help would be a welcome sight. He can share center duties with Andersen and Hayes. This would probably mean White's term with the Rockets is over.

    1. Pops is not 206 lbs. 246 would be more like it.

    2. Pops is better than Dampier right now and for $1 million or whatever minimim salary we sign him for, it will be light years of value better than Dampier.

well fwiw the guy played the same mpg as gortat (even though much fewer games) and had a higher per 40 rebounding average. also he averaged 1 more offensive board per game too. however those fg%'s are pretty disgusting.

I thought Pops was a strange name to give to your child. Then I found out it was a nickname and was reliefed that his parents were not that weird.

I am sure Nana Papa Dwene Mensah-Bonsu did not get teased by schoolmates growing up.

There is more to this for sure. Kinda wanted Pops last year, but hey, it is what it is. He's 6'9 like scola, just a better athelete. The rox still have a problem with size on the front line. The consensus is landry might be on the way out, but scola is olderr and has more value. Wouldn't it make more sense to shop scola than landry?

it would only make sense if you want to have a major gap at power forward or if you got some sort of amazing deal for him.

Got this off his wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pops_Mensah-Bonsu

    Personal life
In the Ghanaian language Twi, Mensah-Bonsu's name means King (Nana) Father (Papa) Thursday Born (Yaw) Three (Mensah) Whale (Bonsu). In several interviews Mensah-Bonsu has suggested that his family earned its surname when an ancestor slew a whale.[7]

Mensah-Bonsu has a number of nicknames, including "King Whale Killer" from his name's meaning and "Big Daddy," popularized by Toronto play-by-play announcer Matt Devlin and other commentators.[8]

I don't think Pops is going to be what pushes through a trade of Scola or Landry. At least, I would hope not.

I think he's just insurance in case of injury, or if we do end up finding a deal we can't pass up involving Landry. I don't think they'll be shopping Landry just because we signed Pops, though.

Pops is a fan favorite. Athletic, dunks. He will be 'new Wafer'.

I think the rocket sign him for selling tickets.

Not sure why there has to be another move; you now have two guys that can play center, and three PFs, unless I'm forgetting someone (I assume Dorsey won't be on the roster).
