im a dude. no its not. its for muslims, men n wumenz. but, the establishments that sell liquor dont ask if youre muslim or not. its the police who do if theyre conducting raids.
Back it up with a Quran verse. Nowhere in the Quran does it say not to drink. It says not to be intoxicated. 1-2 beers or glasses of wine does not intoxicate person. Infact, it is proven that it moderate drinking is healthy.
You can still get alcohol at restaurants run by Chinese, though some are changing their business model to serve halal Chinese food only.
Its relative. mar1juana is illegal in the United States. Some people would argue that alcohol creates more problems in our society than mar1juana. However, if you get caught with over 4 ounces of mar1juana in Texas, you can be incarcerated for up to two years. If I had a choice between getting lashed six times or going to jail for 2 years, I would choose to be lashed. I'm not saying that the laws in Malaysia are just. I'm just saying that we have equally crazy laws.
SOme of the rural areas of malaysia enforce a cockamamie arbitrary version of sharia....and are rightly ridiculed for it. One of the rural religious parties recently lost a regional election, and the party leader blamed it on women not wearing the hijab/head scarf.
thats a bumiputra thing, not a muslim thing. i have thai friends with the same bumiputra rights n malaysian citizenships.
I agree with everything you've said, but I doubt you would take the 6 lashes as easily as you think. These canes break your skin and leave permanent marks....
I suggest you review this with someone more experienced. I am not sure of what the actual meaning is, but I can assure that the following views exist: - You don't even have to tell your first wife you're getting married again. You just have to make sure she feels loved, is happy with the time you spend with her and the kids etc... - What that verse means is that you are polygamous by nature (as a human) and the "YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO" part is reffering to having a single wife and being faithful in your heart forever. - What you said. - This rule exists with rules so strict that the approval of the 2, 3rd or 4th wife would require a force majeure - as in, 3/4ths of the male population on earth dissapear. Yes I know it's unlikely, but that is the point. Ummm.. if you're certain, then that's great. But I am not. I just advise you to look into it very seriously if you are open to stating things (as you have above) as if they are factual. They very well may be true. But I'm sure you are also aware of the super important cautionary verse in the Quraan and Hadith regarding stating something about God which you are unsure of or haven't bothered to properly verify. Hope that helps.
You are in luck my friend. Was asked this question a few days ago. Notes to insert: - The final verse in that quote says "INTOXICANTS ARE". It does not say if it intoxicates, when it intoxicates, anything. By definition at any point in history and anywhere in the entire world, alcohol is an intoxicant. - “Every intoxicant is khamr and every intoxicant is haraam.” Narrated by Muslim 2003. - Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whatever intoxicates in large quantities, a little of it is haraam.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1865; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi. God knows best. More importantly, none of us are experts, so please ask someone who know more than you and I. It would definitely make you feel better assuming you're pursuing the deeper truth. Also understand that what I've posted here is just a collection of quotes. If you are taking verses left and right and trying to establish law you will fail. There is a story, a reason, a verse, a chapter, a book and an explanation behind everything. They all tie together. Just because someone caned a woman for drinking in the Prophet's time (PBUH) doesn't necessarily mean that should be the law now.
That is great news to hear.. The rest of the female population who resides in foreign countries will catch on and break away from captivity and search for liberty.. They will all flock to America soon enough... More variety of meat for me to eat!!!
Religion has no business being in government....... People should be free to interpet religion how they see fit, God gave us free will and a brain, we should be free to use it. Why let others make choices for us....it just makes no intellectual sense at all, at least to me. I don't get it..... DD
To get Bumiputra rights don't you have to be a Muslim? I know plenty of Chinese Malaysians who were born and raised in Malaysia but don't have Bumiputra rights.
My understanding is, Bumi-putera ("prince of the land"), are Malays (who are also Muslim) and indigenous people ("orang asli", origin people, who are not Muslim). Both have the rights. If you are Muslim but not Malay, you still don't have the rights.
I did some more reading on Bumiputra (Bumi-putera) and it looks like you are right that those benefits are extended to indigenous people in some states, Sabah and Sarawak, but not under the Federal Constitution. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bumiputera_(Malaysia) [rquoter]Another controversial aspect is that the Orang Asli of peninsular Malaysia are not considered Bumiputra under the Federal constitution. As their settlement predates that of the Malays, this is considered unfair by many, especially as they are also much worse off than the Malays.[/rquoter] I will agree with you that it is primarily about ethnicity and not relgion although relgion is tied to it. [rquoter]Article 160 defines a Malay as being one who "professes the religion of Islam, habitually speaks the Malay language, conforms to Malay customs and is the child of at least one parent who was born within the Federation of Malaysia before independence of Malaya on the 31st of August 1957."[/rquoter] I will still fall back to the my original point that while it seems unfair for Muslims Malays to be subject to a different set of laws they are also get a different set of benefits.
well the majority of the people who voted wanted 'religion being in govt', whatever that means to you, so here we are. im sure they were using their free will n their brains. maybe their brains cant make as much intellectual sense as intellectual n sensible people who u get.
this bumiputera thing (kind of like ur affirmative action? dont really know), at its best is supposed to level the playing field for malays when the british left malaya n the discrepancy in income were causing racial tension. at its worst, its a system that is taken advantage of by those in position to do so all the while creating racial tension n not really at all helping the many poor malays. the benefits are mainly education, politics, business, property, banking. education, its easier for malay children to get govt sponsorships or even university placements. the malay children of parents who are vips, politicians especially. politics, so far we've only had prime ministers of malay ethnicity. business, huge bumiputera companies get to do whatever the f they want. to be in, be a vip, politician or son in law of the prime minister. property, some land are designated bumiputera lands. n new properties have a 5-10% bumiputera discount. banking, some govt trust funds are allocated for bumiputeras only. but thank god they have a limit to the amount allocated. those taking advantage of this are the already rich malays. the govt under the new prime minister is taking action to remove some of the bumiputera benefits. so far no ones revolting against him. n latest is having race taken out of govt forms to identify everyone as malaysians first n not race. whos buying me a drink for all this typing?
I agree with you. Conservative and radical muslims tend to force people what to do or otherwise they dictate the law. Also my opinion is that this news are little bit overhyped, maybe even false. I've been to Malaysia and seen man and women drinking beer. Maybe she is from radical family or something so they wanted to punish her or something. As far for the drinking alcohol, my personal opinion is that it didn't give anything good to anyone. If recreational use of alcohol was allowed than you could see Muslims drinking everywhere
