Turnovers aren't just caused by bad passing or handling skills.A lot of his turnovers were caused by passing to an empty space and making his passes flashier than usual, making it unnecessarily difficult for the receiver to get. Looking at that reel made me realize white chocolate devoted all his energy to thinking and making fancy passes, instead of working on his defense and his shooting form. Too bad there are no extra points awarded for elbow passes
what CCR said. he had a great feel and understanding for the game. very smart in understanding cutters, knowing how to move the defense in order to make the pass he wanted to make, and seeing 2 or 3 steps ahead of plays. Also understood how the ball would bounce off the ground and understood the ball spin better than others seem to. I learned a lot by watching him (just little things to look for...watch a guy enough, and you'll pick up a few things here and there and incorporate them without realizing it)
He's got to be a little bit rusty after being retired for about year. I see him as an insurance policy more than anything. With Jameer Nelson healthy, Williams won't see more than 10 mins per game. He can't shoot well enough to play anything but the PG position.
Rafer, never had the court vision that he did.He was also more creative with his fancy passing, though obviously error prone. Defensively, you are correct.
Dude, if you watch his highlights on youtube, you will notice that most of those awesome plays was from his rookie year. After he shaved off his hair it seemed he lost all of his mojo. He hasn't been the same since. I also notice that when he was younger, he would rely on his speed to do those tricks, so with all those injures he has during his career, he will be nothing more then a jump shooting point guard.
Williams had a great assist/turnover ratio when he was on Memphis. He lost a lot of his flair, but his handles rank amongst some of the best all time.
I failed to make my point in the previous post. Obviously a highlight reel is called that for a reason. What I meant to say was that this guy clearly has the intelligence and basketball ability to make good plays but he either didn't want to or didn't know to do it. With his talent and skills, a little more commitment to the team would've made him a fairly successful basketball player (in terms of championship runs). It helps me appreciate the current rockets more that's for sure. Still, we need a few nba players to show us the flashy stuff since it is fun to watch after all.
This team really made basketball fun to watch, I can't think of a team in today's game who played the way they did. It would be nice if the Rocket's ran that kind of an offense this season.
I want to know how in the world are all those other teams signing a whole bunch of name player but all we can get is ariza and a whole bunch of other scrubs?? seriously i really want to know how that happens, it really frustrates me unless we are a cheap ass team like ive said before.... OH LORD HELP US WE ARE GOING TO SUCK THIS YEAR!!!
Williams has a 6.3 APG/2.3 TPG ration throughout his career. That's 2.27 TOs in 31 minutes per game. Whoever said he was turnover prone is smokin' the same stuff as the guy who said he's a good shooter (39 percent for his career).
On Hollinger's planet. White Chocolate has a better TS% slightly. Both are very streaky players. It does appear that an older Jason Williams compares very well to Rafer looking at stats.
Williams was fun to watch. He had one of the best handles and an amazing passing ability. But he was a poor decision maker. Too undisciplined for even Adelman's offense. The Kings did not go far until they got Bibby. Williams toned down his flashiness in Memphis under Hubie Brown and became a solid PG.
