Morey did say the Rockets could pursue a former all-star. It sounds like Iverson is who he had in mind.
Thanks. Surely others should have heard it as well and posted around the web but they haven't. Guess we'll have to play the waiting game...
Now that is interesting. Assuming its not the same poster, or a guy who just heard the rumor elsewhere and is repeating it. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.
Could be interesting... the current Rockets roster do somewhat resemble those Brown-Iverson Sixers teams. Smart players, good defenders, and guys who do the dirty work very well but no stars or excessive egos (besides Iverson and Brown). If Iverson still "got it," he can be a contributor on the court and bring some "star power," help Les sell some tickets and maybe score sponsorship deals to pay for future purchases of 2nd rounders and draft rights of Euroleague stars and such things. He had a terrible season with the Pistons, which seems to be mostly over petty personality conflict and ego trips, but just the year before in 08 he was enjoying a career year in scoring efficiency. I guess that for the right price (i.e. MLE or maybe less), he would be a decent gamble. If you lose, you waste a limited amount of money on a broken down player. If you win, you get a reasonably good version of Allen Iverson.
from Iverson's latest twitter: Now you KNOW that hes not gonna play for the money...its all HEART. No better situation for him than in Houston
Not about the money .. about him getting back on the court. Hmm .. if he comes here, and he's expecting to start and play close to 40 mpg, there will be problems. I'm not sure how he'd fit with Brooks and Lowry still on the team.
Like I said in my other post, getting AI would really help us sell tickets. Besides us hardcore fans, who's going to want to watch an All Star-less team. For AI, this presents an opportunity for him to be the first option on offense and show other teams he can still play. If it is a two-year deal, Iverson would probably have a player option for the second year. I'm only saying this if what people are saying is true.
It would an interesting depth chart on the perimeter if he signs. It might signal a Battier trade but I would now want him to remain with the team to use his "glue" and leadership to keep this team on the right track because AI and Tmac on the same team has potential to be combustible and mess with chemistry.
I'm not sure if I like this move or not. I was actually looking forward to rebuilding strangely enough.
Iverson just signed with Shanghai Sharks? They need some star power and it seems that the owner gets along with him.
