Why would Joe D do this even if he had not renounced AI? Maybe we on this Board are better off considering the Horford thread than pretending there is a 5 mil pot'o gold available, let alone for Iverson. If this is to be discussed then go for the remaining @$1.75mil and at least it makes some sense.
taking AI would be worse than tanking IMO. this would totally impede the growth of our team. i would rather sacrafice one bad year, than take Iverson... and i am a big iverson fan.
I agree that the Thunder and Pacers are a better fit. I won't mind him come over here for a season to help out but I won't believe it until the deal is closed.
If it's true, it will be the Rockets way of "tanking" without having to do it blatantly. The season will not be short of drama either if McGrady and Iversion are both on the roster. Can't you just see the threads that will fill the GARM when both of them tell each other "You will be iso-ed by us!"?
AI updated his twitter. Houston is not on his list of options. http://twitter.com/alleniverson/status/3381258693
Morey isn't that stupid, and Les isn't that desperate. It is so refreshing to know we have a GM who won't make this sort of mistake, who won't treat the roster like it's fantasy basketball and make a move simply for the sake of making a move.
You can't lose anything with a 1 year rental. The worst case scenario a huge drama with McGrady again but I don't even see that coming eventually. But yes, its does not make a difference either. There's no right or wrong with this one I guess. You can doubt AI as much as you want but what you can't doubt is his heart and his passion for the game. Practice?!
the least source I trust right now even an allstar such as AI can't determine where he is going sometimes
We need at least one superstar to attract customers, right? And it's a safe gamble. Considering we have veterans on the roster, we can be a legitimate playoff contender.
Yes, AI can probably still do that. The important thing is He will bring some offense to a team lacking in offensive weapons. He may not be the same AI 8 years ago when He led his team to the finals but He can still score. A playoff contender indeed, If He works within the system of Adelman.
If it's only 1 year then yes. As of right now we don't have a dynamic scorer on this team. We don't have a player to draw fouls and get to the line. Now once the season is done kick him to the curb because we are hot pursuit of some of the top talents available.
One other thing to consider: He might have value at the trade deadline outside of just being another expiring contract. If we put him on the court and he stays healthy and plays well, he could be viewed as an important missing piece for a team looking to make a playoff push or to put themselves over the top. This could especially be true if a team loses a scorer due to injury and needs a replacement for the playoffs. If the Rockets are out of the playoffs when the trade deadline rolls around, he could be a relatively cheap star and an efficient (kidding, he's never been efficient) scorer that a playoff team would be willing to roll the dice on. Although he way the Detroit team fizzled last year may hurt his stock, some team will be willing to trade something for him. If not, let his contract expire and say good riddance. Trading him to a contender might be able to bring in a young prospect or maybe even a decent 1st rounder. It might be a way to add a piece for Yao's return. Also, as some have mentioned it would be a good way to sell tickets and jerseys. Despite the Chinese fan contingent, the Rockets aren't immune from the current economy. I've never been a huge Iverson fan, but I have to admit that the guy is a big star. Most of the fans who go to occasional NBA games go to see a star player. Iverson has his own following, and a group of IOF posters would soon emerge on the BBS (this may be reason enough not to sign him). If McGrady isn't playing until after Christmas and Yao is done for the year, he could help sell some tickets.
Wasn't it said that anything from bleacher report wasn't true. Wasn't bleacher report another hoops world site. IDK I maybe wrong about this but how is this even correct. 1 year 5 mil?? I thought the Rockets didn't have anymore money left considering they signed 3 guys with the Mid-Level exception. I doubt the veterans minimum is that much.
Morey's a genius. He probably threw this rumor out there himself to up Iverson's asking price and make other teams overpay for him.
Iverson would be a one year rental. Sign iverson, beg him to come off the bench, but trade lowry an battier for a true center, m. Gasol? Fast forward to 2010-2011, iverson walks and we buy out rubio sometime along the way. Leaving us with: pg: brooks/rubio c: Yao/gasol/anderson pf: scola/anderson/landry
