I'm not as down on Orlovsky. He didn't thrill me or look like a viable starter, but I wasn't looking for that. I'm expecting a guy whose ceiling is lower than Sage but also a guy who plays smarter than Sage or Rex. I think we saw that.

    What I noticed:
-His velocity wasn't impressive, but that's about what I figured we'd see. Rex has the cannon, but no brains. I'll take the opposite.

-I was disappointed by how he seemed to hang on to the ball too long and maybe over think in the pocket. There were a few quick releases, but plenty of times he clung to the ball and waited for the defense to overwhelm the line.

Hopefully he can be more decisive - this offense puts him in a position to succeed.

I liked that Schaub came out as soon as he did. Led a successful drive, looked good, go ahead and bring him out.

Orlovsky was playing with the backups/no names. Would be more interested n what he looks like with the starters. Would hope he looks better with the first unit.

playing with backup should not affect his velocity or the the fact that he was nearly intercepted numerous times. If he was playing against the first string defense, some of those wouldda been picks

True, but he was also playing against backups/no names. Orlovsky just doesn't have any zip on his passes and a couple of his passes should have been picked off. I also think he had a couple of misreads because I remember him throwing into double coverage a couple times, also remember Kubiak not being happy with him on the sidelines.

With that said, it's was the first pre-season game with a new team. Between him and Grossman, I think one of them will be a viable backup.

    1. Barwin had 1 sack on a very nice hesitation move against Brandon Albert.

    2. He was playing the right side IIRC.

    3. I don't think we used a blitz package with Barwin/Mario lastnight. Mario probably didn't play for more than 1 or 2 series and I think we had Smith opposite of him for those series.

But overall, Barwin looked really good. Not sure if there is video of the sack but it was a beautiful move to get past Albert and you could see the explosiveness when he closed in on the QB after.

Dan O didn't look as bad as I had expected, but he really lucked out that those db's didn't catch those potential picks he threw

Chris Brown looked great as did the first team.

Sucked for Cassell...his receivers have horrible hands. Biggest shock of the game was that Brodie Croyle looked like an NFL QB (and not just the guy from Hard Knocks with the smoking hot wife)

Agreed on the velocity. Better receivers and better linemen may mean he doesn't try to make some of those same passes though.

So he's playing the same side as Mario. Is there a chance the plan for him to rush the passer on passing downs from the LB position outside of Mario?

I think if they were to plan that, they'd have Mario line up as the outside LB like they've done before, with Barwin at end. I'd like to see him more than just a 3rd downer though.

No way they put Barwin at OLB for passing downs...the LBs in place need to know how to cover (since it is a passing down).

If Barwin was playing LB, then the offense would automatically know that he is rushing the passer and they can burn us repeatedly.

It has been mentioned more than once that Barwin might rush opposite of Mario with A. Smith moving inside on passing downs. Kubiak and crew feel like Cushing can be a very effective pass rusher as a OLB so I think we'll see that quite a bit.

OK, so he was on the defensive right side then, for the sack, the opposite of where Mario usually plays?

    Good, I like it.

Haven’t read the entire thread, but….

Is it my imagination, or does channel 13’s HD signal really SUCK? Seriously, it looked worse than a lot of standard def pictures.

I DVR’ed the Chiefs broadcast from the NFL Network and watched it again on Sunday morning. MUCH better.

Get your **** together, channel 13. Thank GOD 13 doesn’t do the regular season games….

EDIT: I see this was a topic on the first few pages....but my point stands! ;)

I understood they didn't broadcast in HD at all?

Yeah, I wasn't getting HD at all on KTRK. The only thing I can think of is either Arrowhead is not HD friendly or they were being cautions with equipment in the rain.

the picture in Austin was horrible on channel 54.

even my wife wondered why it was so bad.

Thank God for NFL Sunday package once the season starts

Well, NFL Network showed a replay of the game on Sunday morning via the Chiefs broadcast and the HD was perfect, so I don't think the first thing is true. You might be right about Channel 13 and the rain, but I've noticed their HD signal is far inferior to 2 and 11's overall. Either that, or they just choose not to broadcast in HD more often than 2 and 11.
