This SI Tv Offer seems pretty solid. For $49 you get the game, 28 weekly issues, and a Madden documentary dvd.
I didn't think I was going to buy it, but I'm reading great reviews (as long as you're not a Madden fan, you'll love this game right off the bat) I wish I had pre-ordered it at MicroCenter for $35 now. Anyone know what the best deal is right now?

It's a pretty fun game, but I don't understand the point of the accelerated clock system. I was under the impression it would just affect the play clock and not the actual game clock. I read somewhere that with this feature 2 minute drills actually feel like two minute drills. Yeah, everything is sped up, but if I call a play quickly, I don't want to lose an additional 15 seconds on the game clock when every second counts. I guess it only works when there's a dead play. I just hate it when the AI wastes all 40 seconds on offense before they do anything and was really hoping this would fix that problem. I also appreciate them putting the refs back in the game, but I think it's completely unnecessary. It just seems like there's too many people on the field now. EDIT: I forgot to ask if there are automatic roster updates for the franchise mode. I can't seem to find an option for this in the menu.
The game is pretty good imo. I would refer it to anybody that has interest in football. It plays out so much smoother than before. 9/10.
Got it last night, played only for an hour but its pretty good. Things that impressed me at first sight: Each player has his signature look and animation, I played with the Patriots and you could instantly recognize Brady's throwing motion, the way he stood under center in shotgun. Everything feels more authentic and players standout in a crowd. For example, Brady has the half sleeve with towel and handwarmer hanging from his jersey. Also the animation is smoother and more blending is done so the when QB throws the ball while getting hit, you see the release of the ball being affected by the hit. The running game has been tweaked further now you can "Fight for every yard" literally, I was surprised while running with Marooney, I hit the gab and for the first time in Madden someone actually pushed a guy out of my way for a block. Normally that never happens, its always been like running through a magnet where the animation will suck you in to the closest defender for the auto tackle or break of momentum. Not here first blockers try to move in front of you to lay the block rather than running the defender into you like in previous versions. Also once you get away from the linemen the secondary can be manhandled with a timely flick of the RS UP and watch the player try to fight for extra yard. On one play I took Marooney and hit two DBs with the up stick and kept pressing to break away from the gang tackle and scored a TD. Now this may seem not very impressive but with the way it happened I was suprised, first the play wasn't over even though my momentum had been stopped but instead of plugging in the tackle to the ground animation, the game let me fight on a play that looked pretty dead. In years past that was an automatic tackle but now you can pile through defenders especially thinner lighter safety and break free. It felt awesome to see I was in control not the animation algorithm. Another addition is the button mashing fumble pileup, this is great cause I stole two fumbles away from the opponent while the evidence on the screen showed they had possession. Overall looks like the best Madden to come out in a long time and cannot wait to go home and play some more.
Played it at Best Buy the other day before it officially came out. Looked awesome as usual. Although, I got kind of ticked off that my boy Dennis Dixon is ranked as a fricken 42 overall!
So glad accelerated clock is back! To the poster asking about it, it's unrealistic for you/CPU to be able to run plays back to back burning off 1 or 2 seconds at a time. You'll never see a 2 minute drill that gets to run off like 15 plays.
Typically Madden will be worth picking up about once every 5 years or so... when they do major feature additions and game play overhauls. The other editions that come out are basically just roster patches with some spit polish.
This has always been the case. And when they move to a newer console you have a waiting period until you get a solid game in. And usually you only get 1 or 2 really good ones per cycle. But this year they added a new lead developer that overhauled everything, was vocal about it in the Madden communities, and went above and beyond anything thats been done before. So maybe... mayyyybe they keep this up. Maybe.
I had a weird one. I caught a pass deep in the end zone and it wasn't counted as a touchdown. The next play I started off on the 1 yard line. I couldn't even challenge the call
