Great decision by the Mavs. If only it were that simple to do the same with Yao over the years.

yeah chian word **** a brick if we said that to them about Yao..... no way they would be as understanding as Germany..

even if you somehow don't know how to spell his name at this point.. it's in the freakin article. don't know how you mess that up.

i don't know that cuban has this authority if it's not in dirk's contract, but it's nice that he'll listen

Probably just a typo, I think Clutch initially misspelled "Please" in the sticky thread. It happens.

I can't see any national team being this happy with an NBA owner deciding to keep their star out of international competition. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some prior agreement...possibly with money involved.

Well, I believe Yao would actually take less/waive part of his salary to play for China.

I wonder how people would react when NBA players like LeBron, Kobe, Wade, Kidd, CP3, Dwight, Bosh, Melo and Deron Williams are banned from playing in Olympics team by their respective NBA team owners. Somehow I don't think people may like that when it comes to team USA.

Anyway, it's fun to play the internet tough guy acting like assholes towards foreign players, isn't it?

Well, he already cut his career short for China and let Sun Yue be the first Chinese player to get an NBA championship. ;)

Mengke Bateer was the first Chinese player to get a ring with the 03 Spurs.

Exactly...Yao wouldn't be playing here if the organization wasn't willing to let him play for his country (don't we all know about his immense patriotism by now?). That was established BEFORE he was even drafted. Otherwise, we would have picked Jason Williams instead.

smart move by mavs and cuban, the window is closing for them to get a nba title. as much as i hate the mavs and the thought of them maybe winning it all makes me puke its the right choice.

Great move for the Mavs. Dirk needs rest like what Yao needed years ago. Cuban would be the most hated person in Germany right now. :D

The thing is with yao, I think he 'wanted' to play to the CNT, not out of patroaism (spelling?) but on a more selfish level. Think about it, by playing for the CNT, he not only gain the biggest fan base in the world, but from a marketability standpoint, the love of the biggeset market in teh world as well. Yao's true value lies here as well. I doubt he wanted to play in all those international competition (except maybe the world champs and olympics) but he did it out of personal interest. With the support of the chinese fan base, it doesn't matter if he does well in the NBA or not, people still going to support him.

    Anyway jsut my views.....

Well, Dirk is 30 and with or without him, Germany is still a weak team.
Yao is in his 20s, and China need him if they wants to win anything.
