In-n-Out, I refuse to believe the hype. Maybe one day I'll have enough money to leave Houston to try their burgers but I don't think I'll be impressed. I think its one of those "I have it and you don't" or "I tried it and you haven't" thing.
my hubby LOVES pizza, all kinds, and we tried this place a few wks ago and really liked it. still got some grease on it, not too thin, not too thick, good ingredients and great variety of sausages. family atmosphere but has a large bar too.
if you like NY-Style pizza by the slice. Romano's on west gray is the best in the city bar none (fact).
yuck terrible pizza sauce and it's run by a bunch of ass holes I do like their bbq chicken pizza but that is is
I really enjoy Romano's, but Russo's NY Pizzeria in the Marqu-E is the closest thing in town to real NY pizza.
closest thing to real coal oven or whatever it is pizza maybe. i'm not a big fan of that style. give me a nice large thin slice of cheese pizza that i can fold in half, like you'd find on every other corner of NYC, and i'm good to go.
Don't get me wrong, they are both great. The thing I like about Russo's is that it is not overly heavy on sauce and the slices are HUGE like you find in NYC. You better be really hungry if you are going to eat more than one.
I just tried The Oceanaire tonight since it is restaurant week and I've been wanting to check it out. Was not impressed at all. I give it a 6 out of 10 and that is being generous.
If you like German, you must try Rudi Lechner's- it's across from Yao's Restaurant- whatever that street is that intersects Westheimer (Fondren, maybe?). Plus, if you go on TH, F, or S, you get to watch the Alpenfest band, and yes, they do whip out the Ricoli horn (man, I'm just brain-dead, can't even remember what the hell that horn is called). A bit pricey, but really not too bad- $16-$20 entrees. Delicious ghoulash and bratwurst. We went and ate at Field of Greens on West Alabama today (technically yesterday). The menu isn't totally vegetarian, but it is mostly vegetarian. I had the wild salmon burger with sweet potato fries, and it was pretty tasty. Here's their menu: http://www.fieldofgreenscuisine.com/menu.html
I went to TXLC two nights ago and got a nice, big steak and then came time for desserts. One of my all time favorites is their roasted pecan bowl, which is heavenly. It was then and there that the waitress proceeded to tell me, "Sir, we no longer offer that item nor do we have the ingredients to make it anymore if you order it off the menu". 8-13-09 <---- a small part of me died that day

Totally agree. Went once a year ago and thought it sucked. Haven't been back. Ditto for Pesce. Overpriced as hell.
