Ok, here's my problem. Several months ago I was using my laptop with it laying on my bedspread. After a few minutes, something overheated and a small flame and puff of smoke came up from the left display hinge, the screen went white and the LCD screen lost function. Flash-forward to a week ago, after using this computer with an external monitor for several months I decided I might as well tinker with the thing and find out if the problem might be an easy fix. I found that the outer covering of the LCD display cable had burned through and some of the wires had fused together. I have replaced this part, but my display is still black. Does anyone with experience repairing laptops know if my problem is with the motherboard or the LCD screen?
Smoke and fire usually mean a short. If fixing the wire didn't fix it, then your screen is probably fried. In most cases, it probably won't be cost effective to fix it. The screen is the most expensive part on a laptop.
yeah, I had already looked that up on ebay. Someone was selling the entire screen with the hinges and plastic body for $250. I'll just shop around a little.
