I really like Churrasco's on gessner and westheimer. It will cost you about 20 a person but it is a lot of food and very great due to their unique sauces.
report back and let us know what you think. i will have to try this other kanomwans place y'all speak of. thai gourmet was def different from thai cottage (seemed more authentic). the chicken that we had was excellent....you could tell it wasn't just some cheap stuff. i can appreciate that. thanks for the tip that anything can be made lunch portion. i will take my co-workers in the coming wks.
Kanomwan and Thai Gourmet are worlds away from Thai Cottage in my opinion. Kanomwan is a unique place in that it's in a bad part of town and is BYOB. It is also famous for its owner that can be considered rude by some, but I think he's pretty funny.
I think the final word is that most of the dishes can be made into lunch portions. I never been to Kanomwan, but I read a bunch of reviews online. The bottom line is good food, horrible service. But still, I'll definately consider visiting them sometime.
I believe the fish used to be whole red snapper, but American's have a problem with eating food with the head still attached and Thai (Asians) have a problem with eating a whole fish without the head still attached. Its Tilapia filet now; I think its because of the cultural thing.
You guys got me thinking about great Thai food. I know this is a thread about Houston restaurants, and I know most people on this forum would prefer a hole in the wall, but there seems to be a bunch of Thai food afficianados here, so if you ever find yourself in Singapore, try this place..........one of the best meals I've ever had: http://www.jim-thompson.com/restaurants_bars/singapore.asp
Need to try out smashburgers with everyone hyping it up. For pizza lovers, try Candelaris. good sausage there too.
Speaking of Thai food... What about Morningside? It's another name that I see pop up when Thai Gourmet and Kanomwan get thrown around.
There's this Malaysian restaurant on Wilcrest and Harwin that serves Pandan Chicken. I went there twice but I don't remember if it was good or not. Their "Indian" bread was good though.
I highly recommend VILLA ARCOS on the east side for breakfast tacos. Papa con huevo, chorizo con huevo, chees, beans, sausage that's what she said, carne asada, guisado, etc. Sometimes you can call ahead if there isn't a long line and it's not busy, and sometimes you can just show up, but these are the most awesomest Tacos in the Cosmos.
Smashburgers is great, but don't compare it to In&Out burger in terms of the atmosphere, the service and the people... Smashburger does not have a drive thru unlike In&out... Sometimes I like my food to go while I'm in the car, which Smashburgers does not understand the concept or the idea of how fast food works... If you are serving food that has more than a billion calories and can clog your hearteries, you gotta have a drive thru...
