Don't ask for hot at Thai Gourmet if you can't handle it.

    Them's pretty spicy!

I've never been to Thai Gourmet, but there's no way it's better then Kanomwan, right?

I've been to Kanomwan several times and I like Thai Gourmet more. They're both great though.

I'm really not crazy about their Pad Thai, but I hardly order the pad thai anywhere. I would recommend trying one of their basil dishes for your first visit. Either basil chicken, beef, or shrimp. And as Moe mentioned, hot there is really hot so don't order it that way if you can't handle the heat. Most people I go with get theirs medium and that is plenty hot for them.

If anybody was wondering, the Tex-Cajun Virgin is a creation of BB's, the po-boy place on Montrose at Westheimer. They have some great seafood po-boys, too, and they're open late.

When the queen of Thailand and her crew came to Houston, they had the chefs at Thai Gourmet cater to them. I think thats quite the resume. Its one of my favorite restaurants and I've been to many Thai restaurants in Houston.

But yeah, medium is spicier than you would expect.

Oh yeah. Any item you see on the menu can be made into a lunch portion at Thai Gourmet.

oh, i didn't know that! well, i just got back from there too and i was very pleased. i will def be taking my family there soon. i had the green curry chicken in mild and it was waaaay hotter than mild should've been. it was very good, but i'd describe my "mild" as a 3 chili hots at thai cottage. i really enjoyed it tho!

thanks clutchfans for sharing about this place!

Yeah. I've been eating there for years and didn't find out about that until a few weeks ago. I ordered something off the regular menu and the waitress asked if I would like it in the lunch portion. I told her yes, and got my food with the salad/spring roll. I've done it twice so I'm sure its not a mistake.

Yeah I should have mentioned that MOST items at Thai Gourmet can be ordered as lunch portions. It says that on the menu but it's hidden. I do know I've tried to order a luncheon version of Panang Curry and been denied, but that's the only one. Some other favorite of mine:

    Red Curry Beef
    Royal Seafood
    Beef Salad
    Tom Yum (soup)

And yeah the cheese rolls are the BOMB. You can get them at lunch instead of the regular spring roll for $1 more.

    Rays Franks.

    It's off Nance near I-10

Horror-movie based menu. I recommend "the Mummy" (bacon wrapped hot dog) and "Leatherface".

Quite possibly one of the best burgers I've had.

I must extend a "WOW" as well.

The only Thom Kha Gai I've had that was possibly as good as Kanomwans was in Thailand itself.........and then only at one restaurant. Also Jim Thompson (of all places) in Singapore.........and I eat Thai food whenever I can and Thom Kha Gai whenever it is on the menu. Also, I love the fried fish with chili sauce.

I just looked at Thai Gourmet's menus online, and they call their Thom Kha Gai "Hot and Milky" and they use a fillet for their fried fish instead of the whole fish. I won't let these two strikes against them sway me.........enough of you seem to be sufficiently crazy about this place, so I'll make sure I try it this weekend.

They have the green papaya salad and another salad I can't seem to find in Houston as well, so this place might make me really happy.

I highly recommend Thai Gourmet, as well. If you like tofu and spicy food, try the triple-spicy tofu.
