I cook, but mostly basic stuff. However i do like to cook from scratch but not to the extent of making my own sauces and things like that.
I don't cook everything from scratch but I don't think you have to in order for it to be called cooking.
I just wanted to mention how encouraging this thread is! After reading the article I was starting to feel like my job (I teach cooking classes) was an uphill battle against a movement ultimately headed towards people not cooking at all. Please keep cooking and teach your kids to cook!
I agree that you don't have to make everything from scratch, even Italian chefs use dried pasta. But I wanted to give people the opportunity to delineate what they considered cooking or what they usually meant when they said "I cooked dinner."
I love to cook, but I have a comfort zone. I only stick with central american and mexican food, with recipes that i've borrowed from family. I've tried following the cooking shows..just too complicated. Cooking also gives me something else to do, and I like pretending that I'm a busy person. =)
i love to cook but my children will hardly eat anything that isn't noodles. it's frustrating, and probably my wife and i are to blame for caving in and not making them eat what was/is on the table. it's frustrating and limits the variety of things i would otherwise make.
I'm gonna teach my kids how to cook...I refuse to stuff their mouths with that nasty fast food but then isn't it hard to get little kids to eat healthy when they want to eat junk food? I forsee that I'm gonna have a tough time eating healthy when my future kids want to eat junk!!!
I try and help when my wife cooks, but I just end up being her kitchen b!tch. "Get me this, get me that, cut this, cut that....stop grabbing my ass."
I like to cook but I definately will not make things like pasta or bread by hand. I know how to do it but I that is to me is too much work and too much of a mess to do by hand.
That would make some funny dinner conversation.... "Ewww!!! This tastes like mom's ass!" "How do you know what your mother's ass tastes like?"
Yup, and maybe try the double underhooks while she is at the stove too. She usually kicks me out of the kitchen.
What I like to do is in late August buy a lot of tomatoes from the farmers market and cook them down into sauce. I will freeze that and use it throughout the year to make pasta sauce or chilli.
I used to date someone who used to get pissed at me when I would try to fool around with her why she was in the kitchen. Then I dated someone who told me to grope her while she was cooking or doing dishes.
I can't see it being that bad. I think I ate more junk food my freshman year of college than I had eaten my entire life before that. If all your kids know is home cooked foods they'll enjoy.
it's hard for me to do anything with in-season tomatoes other than eat them as nature made them. for sauce i use san marzano (whole, peeled canned).
I love to cook and like to make stuff from scratch but I don't do pasta's or usually breads from scratch but I'm thinking more and more about starting to do a couple loafs of bread on Sunday for the week.
My wife loves cooking in the summer (when she's at home). She likes getting recipies from the internet and trying them out. Did that last night, actually. I do all the grilling.
I do almost all of the cooking in our house. It's a mix of cooking from scratch, altering ready made products (ex. pasta sauce), and just heating stuff up. Last dishes made from scratch- Sishir's ribs (my variation) Jambalaya Chicken Curry
