I always wondered what it took to become basketball players? How do basketball players interested in making it to the National Basketball Association go about their hoop dreams? Do the people interested in becomming an NBA player have to hire a personal trainer? How many hours a day do those who want to make it to the NBA practice for?
Basically you have to know someone, who knows someone associated with basketball. If you've got a HS coach who knows college coaches, and if you're good enough you'll get credibility from the coaches. If you go onto college, you gain connections. ANd so forth, Basically its not an easy job, You have to be top notch. Totally incredible. You have to turn heads in games, street games, pick up games at the gym, HS games, AAU games. If you're good enough they'll find you. I have a friend who plays 5 hours a day 5-6 times a week and he is not near D-1 level. He's a senior this year and is only getting offers a few places. There are many routes you can go to make it the top level.
look at it this way... 29 teams, 12 roster spots per team = 348 active players in the NBA at any given time how many people played bball worldwide as a youngster? tens of millions... maybe 1 millionth of 1 percent make it... only the creme de la creme!
