I'll be the first to admit that Wall has insane talent, but it looked like he got the benefit of the doubt on a travel there... EDIT: Watched it a few more times and now I'm not so sure...either way, the guy is sick and could be very special in the NBA. Possible superstar if he puts it all together.
Never heard of the kid until I read this thread but he has good size and wing span for a PG, the handles you would expect because of his position but not many PGs possess the above the rim game this kid has. Anybody think his game is like Shaun Livingston?

His physical attributes are already at the elite NBA level.
Not saying you're wrong but this is another dunk video against high school players. A lot of physically gifted athletes, Gerald Green, James White, Rodney Carney haven't done anything in the NBA.
Just been watching some more highlight reels of this guy, and honestly, I can't think of any player atm who has handles like him especially that crossover and hesitation dribble. Its not like Iversons or Deron Williams. There moves are just flat out quick and they beat there guy with that first step. John Wall engages his defender than just makes him look silly. He sends them one way then in the blink of an eye he goes back the other. That crossover is just sick. Granted its not against NBA talent, nor even college talent, but its still ridiculous.
I can't get enough of watching this kid... here's another vid mix of his pro am stuff. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/V6AR1LUxhZo&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/V6AR1LUxhZo&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Lord can we start bball season NOW PLEASE!
After watching the highlight reels, Wall reminds me of a few players handles like Steve Francis in his prime with Derrick Rose's quickness and first step and Dwayne Wade/Rondo's freakishly long arms. Its hard to really gauge him as a certain type of player/prototype from what I've seen he looks like he'll be a great college player but the knock on him so far is his lack of efficiency in a half-court set. UK should have him ready for the league
I'd be curious as to how his outside shot is, because other than that, even noting that it is mostly against high school competition, the kid is obviously on track to be the next superstar. As much as I want to discount the video, a few things stand out. 1. Amazing athleticism, obviously. 2. Ball-handling. You can discount the athleticism, because once he gets to the league, he won't really stand out in that category - well, he may still stand out, but not on his own. But his ball-handling looks very very inmpressive. 3. Ambidextrous? It looks like he is right handed, but he looks as comfortable using both hands as pretty much any player I've seen in a while. 4. Size. 6'4, 195 already? So he's got an inch and an extra 5 pounds on Derrick Rose already. The kids combination of size, athleticism and ball-handling skills are amazing. Still, like everyone else, he has to put it all together, and improve where he's weak. Which apparently is in half-court sets, shooting and defense. 1 year of college will definitely help him.
This guy is phenomenal. Too bad the chance we will have a high enough pick to draft him is slim. All those teams like Grizzlies, Clippers will always find a way to lose more games then us.
I don't know that the DDMO is going to help him with this... from what I can tell (which isn't much at this point as I have only been studying it since Cal got to UK) there isn't a lot of slow down someone set a screen for me sets in the DDMO. But I can't wait to see him in action regardless... is it october yet??
This is a guy that should have come into the league right away. He has nothing to gain and lots to lose by going to college.
you're right about that. which is partly why the Rockets are still on offseason number 2 of trying to get Dorsey to be effective in a half court set. Still, I think college will help...be a step in the right direction, at least.
The kid is very impressive but this video wasn't anything worth posting. Dunking over a worn out 35 year old Jerry Stackhouse isn't indicative of anything. I will be looking forward to watching him play next year. It's too soon to anoint anyone an NBA superstar before they even set foot on a college court, but the fact that he is a full-grown 6'4 is pretty huge.
Check out the other videos and tell me what you think of his handles and court vision. The kid is just fun to watch.
Yeah, I've seen them - he's very impressive. My comment was only in reference to the Stackhouse video. It's never wise to make premature forecasts of NBA superstardom, but so far, he looks to have all the necessary tools. Freakish athleticism, physically imposing size for his position, great ball handling. This is in stark contrast to Ricky Rubio who I personally find incredibly unimpressive.
