This is why i thought of this. They were talkin about women comedians at work (sara silverman in particular). the chicks think she's kinda funny. i dont think she's funny at all. she's annoying actually. But then i thought of women in general. Women in general arent funny either. Maybe it's the social norm like The YoYo says. They dont have to be

Being humorous involves being creative. There are a TON of creative women in this world, for sure. But, in general, men have more creative capacity than women. Case in point: How many successful female movie directors are out there? I'm sure there are a few, but I can't even really think of any off the top of my head. Same goes for music groups. Sure there are some successful female groups, but they are greatly outnumbered by predominantly male bands. Not trying to invoke any wrath from the females, just stating an observation. God bless women!
Not to be a wrathful female, but that may have something to do with the fact that males are the ones running record labels and heading up major networks & studios. People deal with people they are comfortable with, and guys typically are more comfortable in a business situation with other guys. Just a personal observation.
I'm often thought that women doing stand-up just has never been that funny to me. Old Garafelo is decently funny, maybe even some Sarah Silverman stuff occassionally. I find women hilarious in movies, and on sketch comedy shows like SNL, MadTV, etc... but never really when doing stand up.
Maybe they are more funny to other Women Maybe men . . just don't 'get' their jokes? [or care too] Rocket River
Women may or may not be funny, but instead of trying to find that out we are determining the "possibilities." Once you've determined there are no possibilities, nothing she says registers after that, and if there are possibilities you are ignoring her trying to figure out how to achieve your goal.
Especially when they're usually talking about men. lol. I don't know, but I'm trying to think of a woman who had me rolling in laughter while doing stand-up and I can only think of one off the top off my head, and she's one a lot of people hate : Wanda Sykes. I remember listening to some of Whoopi Goldberg's stuff and thinking she was funny-yet-intelligent (I'll probably get a beatdown for that, too). I'm sure I'm missing somebody. One thing I'll say is that I can't think of a comedian that made me cringe more than a female : Lisa Lampanelli.
This is a good point. I'm sure this has some effect on the lack of female movie directors, for instance. But, do you feel that, if given completely equal opportunities, that there would be a 50-50 split of male to female movie directors? I personally don't think so. I feel that men have a more natural talent in that particular area. Same goes for comedy. Men just have a better innate ability to be funny.... IN GENERAL. That said, there are quite a few things that women are naturally better at than men in the realm of creativity. I will revise my initial post where I said I thought women are less creative than men. Creativity cam come in many different forms, and I think women have an innate creative ability in some areas where men typically lack it.
Moe's wife seems to be funny, especially if she came up with the "ass to mouth" text comment in the "tap that" thread. (I hope that wasn't Moe making that up because that was hilarious) My wife is also very funny. She hits comedic gold quite a bit. I know many women in the 20-30 age group that are a riot. I think it is due to the TV shows, movies and sarcastic sense of humor of this generation. I agree, stand up is not women's strong suit but that doesn't mean they aren't funny.
