Just want to gauge posters' general thoughts on Moochie. I thought this season when he was forced to start due to the injury to Steve, he did fairly well. He had a couple of nice games, and really whatever else you might wanna say about him - defence, etc - i thought he really showed he could both distribute and protect the ball, and really at times seemed to make his teammates better (KT and Cato in particular). Moochie also shot the ball ok and did decent on the boards for a player his size (though you could argue that isn't really surprising considering our frontcourt). Anyway what's the general consensus on Moochie. Suppose, just suppose that Francis either got injured again (migraine, foot, whatever) or Francis got traded, would you be adverse to seeing Moochie start?
I think Moochie has shown that he has enough skills to be an average starting PG on a crappy team in this league. When he started for us, there wer the occasional 12 assist nights, or 17 pt nights. That said, I much preferred the Moochie of two years ago who came into the game on apretty regular rotation as a backup. He had a more defined role then (this last season, he was backup, starter, part of three guard lineup, etc), but it was one in which he could immediately provide energy and excitement off the bench. THen, in those occasional games where he was just on fire, you keep him in (3OT game against Indiana two years ago - one of the best games I've been to in a while) Moochie may be a bit overpaid, but when you're trying to make a strong playoof push, I think you need bench players who can produce. I like him, but hope he is used in a more productive manner for the team as a whole (and not his stats as an individual) this season again.
I thought Mooch did well also. People who b**** about Moochie always make stuff up. They'll complain about how he dribbles too much and doesn't distribute the ball. Well he averaged 4.9 assists in about 27 mpg. Wow, 5 assists in 27 minutes and people still don't think he distributes. Also, people say he can't protect the ball. Well his A/TO ratio is 2.58. I think mooch could start at PG for a few teams right now. Teams like Washington, Atlanta, LA Clippers, Denver, and Detroit.
I would'nt mind at all if we had signed him for the exception or somthing like that, but for what he's getting paid, he needs to be able to produce more on the court. However, it did seem like in the games he started, he got more assists than in the games Steve started in.
He is a good backup, but 40+... C'mon what backup is that good? Personally, I would like to see him packaged with possibly KT to move up in the draft. (Hilario, Butler, Wilcox, or Tskitishvilli) Then draft a backup with the 37. (Logan, SMUSH , or Dixon)
Hatred of player is all about his contract Mo Tay, Cato and Moochie haters didn't get large til they got HUGE contracts , . . . FOR THAT MONEY THEY SHOULD DO MORE is the argument [i know. . . I likeKT because he is MOTAY w/o the contract. . . plus more heart] Rocket River Moochie is a fine backup . .no bobby jackson but hell bobby should be starting somewhere
Exactly. I think Logan will be bobby jackson like. moochie is effective and more of a natural point than Francis, but his indecision at times takes too much time off the clock. He needs to continue to improve his game in that aspect. Funniest pick and roll in the NBA - Moochie and Ming. The Mooch can probably walk under Ming's legs without ducking.
40+ what? Million? Only Mo Tay and Cato make over 40 mill. Mooch's contract is for 23,173,000 over 7 years. Is that why some poeple are hating on mooch, do they think he is making over 40 mill?
As a starter, Mooch is not the best PG for this team. As a backup, he is better suited for this team. In a backup role with a backup's minutes Mooch is just fine.
Moochie is making much less than the midlevel exception. Guys like Todd MacCulloch and Calvin Booth--making $35M--are midlevel guys. Oski-- Mooch's deal is over 6 years, not 7 (I think). Still, I like Moochie. I spent some time traveling with the Fort Wayne Fury of the CBA about 2-3 weeks prior to Moochie being called up by the Rockets. Got to spend a little time with him, and he's a real competitor. Sure, his contract is a little hefty, but he's a quality backup PG and a good lockerroom guy who gets along well with all his teammates. Unless we can really improve this team by trading him, I say hold onto him.
Moochie is a solid backup but watching him play 40 minutes would be torture. Logan would be more like Bobby Jackson, Smush isn't better than Tierre and Dixon is not and will not be a point guard...Yeah, I guess I'm a little biased towards Tierre, we should trade Moochie and keep Steve. Isn't Steve staying this year no matter what? He can only leave after next season, right...So let's see how things go, and all this drama might disappear
Is Eric Snow all that much better than Moochie? Maybe we could call the Clips and see if he would take Mooch as part of a package for Odom.
Yeah Moochies does make alot of money, but compared to say Cato, I think he's more than worth it. The thing about Moochie is that i really do think he makes his teammates better, something which Francis has yet to do. Moochie also seems to be a great lockerroom presence and he is definitely more of a natural point than Francis. Not necessarily a better guard, but a better point. Of course i'm only asking this due to all the "Francis hates Ming, Francis won't sign an extension if we take Ming, Francis is a rascist... " discussions. If Francis were to leave or be traded, i'd be happy with Moochie - once he gets better accustomed to the increased minutes - running the team.
People hate on Mooch too much. He's fine. The 3 guard was the thing to hate. With Mooch in the energy role, he should do well. His a/to ratio is nice. His set up on plays looks creaky and mechanical, so perhaps it is un-aesthetic, but he accomplishes the task. He does dribble too long, gets trapped in the corner, and plays horrible defense. I don't know who you'd want to replace him with, tho. It's not like theres a load of Bobby Jacksons and Chauncy Billups out there to pick up for 3 mil/per. I wonder what Jeff McInnis will make? That should shed some light into Mooch's mk val. McInnis is pretty efficient, really.
Mooch is fine...as long as he stays within his role...but making this guy into a third guard in the line of the old Detroit Pistons 3 guard set is laughable to me. He's a pretty average backup PG. Nothing more...nothing less.
he would start for: atlanta chicago (i would too, but thats not the point) denver detroit GS LAC miami washingotn as a starter he averaged 15-8 if i remember correctly.
