both of them have had very long and successful careers. both of them have had many styles and genres of music. Phil Collins doing movie songs, Rod Stewart singing Sinatra etc.
you don't believe me? <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NLXFkxfGWqs&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NLXFkxfGWqs&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/D1bLAZte4fA&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/D1bLAZte4fA&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I'm just saying... Sinatra is a legend, a icon. Stewart should be no where near him... even in a sentence. And Sinatra trumps Stewart so bad in this song. I can't listen to this whole song sung by Stewart. Hurts my ears.
Stewarts "The Great American Songbook" CDs have sold millions of copies. I'm just saying that's changing genres as he gets older and he's still making a crap load of money. Same with Phil doing all those Disney songs.
I like Phil Collins' music. Face Value, No Jacket, Hello, Seriously- pretty good stuff. And I am not a fan at all of Rod Stewart's stuff post-1977, all that Young Turks and Downtown Train- it's alright, just not my thing. However, Rod Stewart created two of the best albums/CDs in the history of rock and roll with Every Picture Tells A Story and Never A Dull Moment. On EPTAS, songs like Maggie May, Mandolin Wind, title track, I'm Losing You- excellent stuff- and that guy sings his a** off like no one else. On NADM, he does a wicked cover of Jimi Hendrix' Angel, as well as You Wear It Well (a great song before it was ruined by TV commercials) and all the others. Just go to Amazon and preview the songs from those 2- you'll see what I mean. I put Every Picture Tells a Story up there with Who's Next, Ziggy Stardust, and all the other great CDs from the 70s. I didn't include Collins' work with Genesis or Stewart's work with The Faces or Jeff Beck- those are separate. But based on their solo work, Rod Stewart gets the nod because those 2 CDs are much better than any of Collins', although Face Value is pretty good.
I like both of them, but Easy Lover is one of the greatest duets of all time in the history of the universe. the music production is incredible. you got incredible drums, guitar, and pop and soul. Phillip Baily from Earth Wind and Fire. They don't make songs like this anymore. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/n9xY_cPenSs&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/n9xY_cPenSs&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Phil Collins in a landslide - I have all of his solo stuff and almost all of Genesis' albums (the only one I don't have is the first one). I got the first 2 Jeff Beck albums featuring Rod and a retrospective on the Faces but nothing solo from Rod Stewart.
Faces vs. Genesis ? Even though both of them have chosen to go lame, Rod will always be cooler. I'll go with my twin brother of a different mother (Manny ), Phil all the way. The whole of his work is unbelieveable...well, especially compared to Rod, although I really enjoy his standard stuff.
Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your *******. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.
