Some of you, most likely in Austin, probably already know about these guys. I just saw a tv commercial for their album last week. I only found one mention of them before in search, back in the ACL lineup thread. <div><object width="480" height="381"><param name="movie" value="http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/x8whm8_black-joe-lewis-the-honeybears-suga_music&related=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/x8whm8_black-joe-lewis-the-honeybears-suga_music&related=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="381" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always"></embed></object><br /><b><a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8whm8_black-joe-lewis-the-honeybears-suga_music">Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears - Sugarfoot</a></b><br /><i>Uploaded by <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/UniversalMusicGroup">UniversalMusicGroup</a>. - <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/us/channel/music">Music videos, artist interviews, concerts and more.</a></i></div> <div><object width="480" height="381"><param name="movie" value="http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/x9hutd_black-joe-lewis-the-honeybears-im-b_music&related=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/x9hutd_black-joe-lewis-the-honeybears-im-b_music&related=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="381" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always"></embed></object><br /><b><a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9hutd_black-joe-lewis-the-honeybears-im-b_music">Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears - I'm Broke</a></b><br /><i>Uploaded by <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/UniversalMusicGroup">UniversalMusicGroup</a>. - <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/us/channel/music">Watch more music videos, in HD!</a></i></div> It's like Howlin Wolf or James Brown fronting the Blues Brothers Band. Go to their myspace and listen to Gunpowder and b**** I Love You. http://www.myspace.com/blackjoelewis
I caught these guys be accident last year. They opened for Mates of State at Warehouse Live, which was kind of an odd fit. Anyway, the indie kids didn't know what to think of them at first but by the end of the their set, everybody was dancing and going nuts for them.
I remember that the tenor sax player was a freshman at Texas State my last year there. I used to give him tips every once in awhile.
caught them at stubbs on new years last year... awesome show. if you like them, check out king khan and the shrines. they're even better.
They are a modern day version of the blues shouter. If you like them go back and catch Wilson Pickett, Joe Tex and Sam and Dave. Some of the best music ever.
