If you're comparing by lyrical content and overall delivery, Kanye should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as Lupe.

However, Kanye makes good beats, that's about it.

Rap is about flow. Not about the lyrics. You could have the best lyrics ever, but if it doesn't flow or the beat sucks. Nobody is going to buy your songs.

That is why Kanye is top.

Lupe is a lyrical genius, but Kanye is no slouch. Kanye has much better production on his albums than Lupe, too. If Lupe upped the production, more people would buy his albums (as you can see with Food & Liquor to The Cool). The Cool had the better production.

I think Lupe has far and away the better flow. Kanye has improved his, but that's definitely not a strong point of his. Kanye's slightly awkward flow was probably the one flaw in College Dropout.

    Quality-wise, I would say Chicago:
Kanye, Lupe, Common, Consequence, Slum Village, Do or Die, Rhymefest

I'd say Houston can be credited with creating a more distinct style and having more sheer numbers(Although I may be biased in thinking that more Houston rappers have nationwide followings).

I agree, that was some ignorance

Both of them are Windy City MC's so that's what they have in common.

But they have dfrnt styles, I like them both.

Kanye because he's fly and very creative, especially with his beats and style. Who ever said his last album is bad just doesn't see the creativity behind it.

It's very very well produced album and creative that comes from heart although it's POP ART not hiphop. Kanye's ahead of his time that's for sure.

Lupe on the other hand has amazing lyrics and flow. That go go gadget flow is killing every track! The Cool was very good and the new album Lasers seems to be good and fresh.

If I could choose, both of them get my vote. And who ever said hip hop is dead must be listening to Soulja Boy too much cause it isn't dead, just turn on some und songs.

And to answer your question about Cha or HTown rappers?
    Chicago all the way baby!

Sure Chamillionaire is dope, so as K-Otix and Paul Wall but other than that, lyrics are on low level.

I'm from Houston, but have been living in Chicago for the past two years (ever since I graduated from UT)...and there's so much quality underground hip hop music here, it's unreal.

808's is getting a barrage of hate on this thread.

It has to be the most misunderstood album of all time.

Right up there with ''No Code'' by Pearl Jam.

Truly brilliant, but because they are a departure from the artists previous
material, the masses don't give it the chance it deserves.

Lupe has better lyrics and better flow but Kanye has better beats overall I've listened to Kanye more than Lupe so I'll go with him.

They have quality in Houston as well. Easily.

Trae, Z-Ro, K-Rino, SPC, etc., are all quality to me (I would say those artists are underground). Then you have Scarface and Chamillionaire as Houston's mainstream. Overall, I like Chicago's style better. I can listen to Common, Kanye, and Lupe all day. In fact, Common made the album of the decade with Be. It just becomes more of a classic every year.

If you think hip hop is dead, you really should look out for underground rappers. You may never return to radio again.

Lupe... lyrics a little dark at times

Every Kanye album was great other than 808s, and Lupe is a good lyricist but I wouldn't say Kanye is a bad one either and can only do beats. Kanye performing live is a beast. Lupe is alright live, nothing spectacular.

    I like both.

I'm a huge hip hop fan, but not a huge live concert hip hop fan. With that said, Lupe is one of the best hip hop acts I've seen live. Others that come to mind are, of course, Kanye (saw him at Lollapalooza a few years ago with a full orchestra, performing in front of his hometown crowd), as well as The Roots.
