Ch. 2 Sports Sunday, 10 P.M. 6/23

I was watching the 5 pm local sports broadcast on Ch.2 (NBC) and the sports broadcaster (Russ Small) only mentioned that Carroll Dawson would be in the studio to discuss the draft. No mention at all of Franchise & I doubt they would omit him if he was intending to show up at all. Probably best anyway not to get another soundbyte from Steve before the draft, especially on live TV when he can do alot more damage with his words.

 

Ron, please give us "out-of-towners" an update of what they talk about. Thanks!

I love to talk Rockets basketball, but this board does have some very witty people who are probably bigger fans than me. Therefore, don't piss off the hard core fans man!!!! They'll hound you until redemption is fullfilled!!!

But, Barros, I like your posts; just don't be so agressive. Remember, that even though we don't meet face to face; Rockets politeness extends and should extend throughout the Internet!!!

...if carrol comes on tonight, the only question i want to hear is, "what does steve feel about selecting yao #1" i want carrol to tell me what steve feels. if they dont ask him that question the whole interview is a waste of time. ive read all the articles on the CBA and the Shanghai sharks. i know all about all that...
just give me what Francis is saying..im sick of all the rumors.

and i doubt that Carrol will give a straightforward answer based on previous interviews ive heard from him.. he answers every question very vaguely. i mean i dont hold it against him, i guess its part of his job...

Steve didn't show. Don't know why. I took some notes, but I'll post what little I have after other more eloquent posters get the ball rolling.

ive read it all here. (another reason this is the greatest site ever made, despite my life threatening addiction to it..but i digress..)

i felt sorry for all the guys we arent going to draft that they showed at the end.

 

I thought the best part was when they showed the sound clips from the various draft prospects saying how they could fit in with the Rockets...I especially liked Quintel Woods at the end saying with him they could win a championship. You gotta love a guy with enthusiasm and confidence.

Alright, here's what I got.

CD said they're really happy with the #15. The anchor-guy (don't know his name) asked CD if the Rocks would look at a SF instead of a big man. CD said that a 3 is something they're "looking at also." Usually 3s are hard to find, he said, but this year there's a lot.

The anchor guy asks him about Nachbar. CD hesitates and then says that the Europeans are good shooters. Nachbar is no exception. He had "presence," good leaping ability, and a nice touch around the rim. CD also said that Nachbar would need time to adjust like anyone else.

Anchor guy asks CD about the health of Mo and Steve.

CD said Mo's working with the trainers (I think). I think he might have said also that he's "back at full speed," but all I know for sure is that he felt pretty positive about Mo and that "he's well on his way." With Steve, apparently he's a "fast healer" and his shoulder has almost full flexibility. They're also scheduling another visit to the Mayo Clinic in July for his migraines. I don't recall hearing anything about the status of those migraines.

CD concluded with a comment about how this is a "much deeper draft than [they had] originally anticipated."

My thoughts:

I want to say that CD didn't want to talk about Nachbar because he hesitated for a second when asked about him, but I'm probably totally reading into it. He was generally positive about him, but tried to qualify his positive comments with remarks about how he'll need time to adjust like everyone else. We know that they're looking at big men in addition to small forwards. My guess is that the Rockets would take Nachbar and be happy with him, but he's probably not at the top of their wish list. But that's just complete speculation.

thanks for the recap relativist. i didn't see the interview but i'm guessing cd wouldn't be gushing over nachbar even if he really wants him. sounds like just the standard posturing, "he's a good player, needs time" that they say about practically everyone. admittedly i've seen maybe 2 clips of nachbar but based on what i've read i'd be ecstatic with a ming,nachbar draft.

CD noticably bristled when asked about specific draftees (Nachbar).
