DA scooped the Snow trade? Jeebus. Now there's someone that's never wrong. You think Odom for Snow trade is legit?

Based on the Clippers last two drafts, it seems the decisions are being by Baylor, not Sterling. Baylor has had the two best drafts of any team imo.

No, I don't think Sterling will pay the max for more than 2 players (at most). So Odom does seem the odd man out. But he still has this coming year on his contract. There's no indication the Clippers are desperate to trade Odom now.

I don't think KT wants to be a backup. That may play into this whole trading of KT thing...

I thought I had read that in a couple of places; and usually, ESPN is pretty reputable.

Honestly, I think most of y'all are holding on to the perceptions of Odom a year or two ago. I don't think he's the same in the perception around the league. He's struggled a lot, with drugs, with his outside shot, and the Clippers actually put him on the bench some last year to try and improve their chemistry. He's still 6'10 with a load of skills, but his value is dropping, and most teams know that the Clippers won't resign him anyway. The Clips have plenty of swingmen, and could use another scorer up front (KT) or a stabilizing force at the point (Snow). There's some baggage that comes along with him, and I doubt teams are just banging on the Clippers' door offering superstars for him.

If I had to guess, Eddie Griffin at this time last year was a more highly regarded NBA prospect than Lamar Odom is now. KT is greater than Richard Jefferson, and the 15 pick is probably better than the 18 and 23. If it's not, throw in someone like Morris, and it definitely is. It's not definite, but Odom should be a possibility, imo.

that's true, but Brand plays what? 40mpg? They don't need someone of KT's calibur to play 8mpg. They'll probly get someone with more potential as a pf at 8 or 12, who can also spot minutes at C, like a Hilario.

Trade Francis for Odem. Start odem at PG. (I keep hearing he can play every position right?)
Draft Nachbar at 15 just the same.
wouldnt that be Ironic.

I was always under the impression the Clippers were trying to get rid of Odom strictly because of future money issues the team would face with the several young, talented players they have, who are going to be asking for big money when their rookie contracts expire. That's why I cannot see why they would want to trade for a player like Eddie Griffin, because then they would just be in the same boat. Kenny Thomas is not going to be demanding a lot of dollars, so it seems like he would be a better choice for them than some big prospect like Eddie Griffin. And this is why the Eric Snow deal makes perfect sense for the Clippers! Is it an equal value trade? Of course not! Odom is twice as valuable as Snow. But the Clippers would be getting a veteran player with a small contract, who will not be in the market for a big raise. This will allow them to sign some of their other big name youngsters like Quentin Richardson, Darius Miles, Elton Brand, and Michael Olowokandi. Plus, its not like the Clippers would be getting crap in return. Eric Snow is a quality role player who would help to fill their weakest postion: point guard. I would not be surprised at all if a deal like this occurred, where Odom was traded for someone with a lot less value.

The only way I can really see the Clippers trading Odom for a big name young player is if it includes a point guard.

Cat: If Odom's value is at an all time low according to you, why wouldn't the Clippers keep him one more year and showcase his talent then trade or re-sign him?

Also no one who thinks this trade is legit has addressed why the Clippers would want the #15 pick when they already have the #8 and #12. On top of that they're looking to trade one of those picks!

Cheap rookie contract talent is one thing, but the Clippers are loaded with youngsters already. I mean Brand is their "vet" who they acquired by trading their lottery pick.

Getting a backup pf isn't their top priority. They need a starting pg and a backup/starting center (if Kandi leaves).

I still think it's a pipedream TheCat. KT just doesn't do much for that team mostly because their star is an undersized pf. KT and Brand aren't going to play at C, KT isn't going to play sf with all the swingmen they have, so that leaves very little time for the Clipps to offer him. The 15 would be valuable if they didn't already have the 8 and 12. They would be better off picking up a pf/c with one of their picks, a pg with the other, and keep Odom to showcase him, even if they don't want sign him for big bucks.

Well ok, if the Clippers do not want KT and the 15, then why not Cato and the 15?

I think Odom can be had for a decent price....both Cato and KT are more highly regarded then Eric Snow.

Odom is on the trading block because of his drug problem, and the fact that the Clippers have Miles on the bench...and frankly, Miles is better.

I doubt if Odom gets the max after next offseason, so keeping him for a year can backfire as he can walk for nothing. It doesn't matter how good he is; if the Clippers wait another year, they'll get even less in offers because they have no leverage. At least this summer, they can say "we can always keep him around next year". Most people around the league will call Sterling's bluff on him paying Odom what it takes, when he has Brand and Kandi to take care of.

There's no rule saying they can't trade pick 15 again. There's plenty of teams interested-- CD said something similar to this last night-- so they can deal away the pick if they want something more established. Whether or not they use the pick, the point is it does have value to them.

Also, there's no reason Brand and KT can't play up front against a lot of teams. I'm not saying that they should start them both, but who else besides Shaq can one of those two not match up with? Every team needs a third big man to come off the bench, and that's assuming Kandi stays. Who is it now, Sean Rooks? And I seriously doubt Nene Hilario is going to contribute in his first couple of years. If they absolutely doubt they can get a starting PG anywhere else, then KT is certainly tradeable for one.

The days of throwing max contracts to unproven players is over. See the CBA. How many teams are crippled by their maxed players? I'm not saying Odom can't be worth the max in the future but how many teams would offer Odom the max right now?

Letting Odom walk after next year for no compensation wouldn't suprise me. This is the Clippers we're talking about.

Package the 15? They can package the 8 and 12 as it stands. I've got to brush up on my CBA but isn't their a rule against getting a pick from a trade and immediately trading it again? Don't quote me on that.

Hrm...Kenny Thomas as a backup or Nene, Amare, Wilcox as the backup with a great all-star PF as his tutor? Are you for real? Why does Nene need to contribute immediately?

I'D RATHER HAVE KURT THOMAS THAN KENNY THOMAS! (I'm being serious).

Cat, you're kidding me right? KT and Brand on the floor together for significant stretches of time? cmon. okay fine, not Hilario, get instead Borchardt, Ely, whoever. They can get decent sub big man minutes from one of their picks AND keep Odom. Why would they trade Odom for KT + 15 only to hope they can trade KT + 15 for a good pg??? Odom has much more star-power than KT + 15. And why would teams want to trade for Kenny, after all he wont get many minutes and Sterling is a cheap bastid who wont sign him for that much dough, so teams could just wait and sign him for the friggin exception.

booo your hoping beyond hope. would you trade Francis for Tim Thomas + #13? hmm. ;)

Who couldn't KT and Brand matchup with, besides Shaq? If the Clippers are serious about making noise in the playoffs, they need someone besides Brand and possibily Kandi up front. Borchardt, Ely, or someone else might give some decent minutes, but I highly doubt they are the 3rd or 2nd best big men on a team that wins a lot of games. (not as rookies) But, even if you are right, it's not impossible to trade KT and 15 for a PG in a three-way deal. Doc and other insiders have said that we've gotten some very good offers for Kenny, so I don't see how it's that far fetched.

Oh, and Francis is better than Odom, and Kenny Thomas is better than Tim Thomas. :)

Hrm...Kenny Thomas as a backup or Nene, Amare, Wilcox as the backup with a great all-star PF as his tutor? Are you for real? Why does Nene need to contribute immediately?

Why can't they have both? None of those three are going to contribute much next season. Give them time to learn in practice, and trade Kenny when they are ready.

I could see a threeway maybe in the works Cat, but no friggin way straight up for Odom.

KT > than TimT, I dunno about that. The only reason I would give the edge to KT would be the contracts.

I just don't see a Brand KT lineup working Cat. One undersized pf you can get away with. 2? nuh uh. No inside d presence there.

Yao would eat them alive. :)
