It would work, why not? I think it is fair to both sides, and it solves our SF issue as well. If the 15 is not enough, what about a future number 1? DaDakota
Because we (the clippers) dont need Kenny Thomas...we have elton brand starting. That would be another undersized 4man
I am on board with it. Not sure the Clippers would do that. However Sportsline is reporting that the Grizz want to trade #4 to the Clippers for #8 and #12. The Clippers would then use the #4 pick on Skita. Skita is a SF so perhaps they would have a log-jam of SFs (Odom, Miles, Skita) and would be more willing to deal Odom. They would then get KT and the #15 pick to pick up a PG, Williams, Dickau. Things could get interesting! ;-) Chris
I love what your saying!!! But, Odom is the Man on the basketball court. The only thing that could pry Odom from the Clippers are Griffin, the #1 pick, Mobley, or Francis. I hope my instinct is wrong. But I think that when any team has the talent of Odom, they don't let him go for nothing (Thomas and #15 would get us a solid starter though; not an all star like Odom).
KT would be a nice CHEAP good quality back up for Elton. He gives you good "value" for the dollar, something owner Donald Sterling likes. Who is the back up PF on the Clippers? Again, if the Clippers take Skita, do they need Odom AND Miles? Plus the Clippers would have the #15 pick to use to pick up a PG if they wish. Chris
Because we still need KT. MoT and Griff are still unknows for solid starters this coming season. KT is the only person we can count on for the moment. KT will have good trade value after the season starts and we know we can count on MoT and Griff.
KT plus 15 for Odom is a complete pipe dream. Its only fair if you think Odom is "a dime a dozen" player like Dakota has labelled him.
I agree with ^^^^. Cept I seem to recall a time when Dak was proclaiming Odom to be a better or close to equal player as Stevie. That trade does not help the Clipps, cmon.
I don't think it is TOO out there a situation considering the circumstances revolving around the Clippers organization. I think the key here is Donald Sterling and his history of paying players. If you had an owner that was willing to pay out like Cuban then there wouldn't be a chance of this deal happening. BUT, the Clippers have to decide who they are going to pay (Brand, Kandi, Miles, Odom, Richardson, Maggette etc etc) and who they are willing to give up (looks like McInnis is gone already). Perhaps because of the Sterling situation Odom can be had "below market value" and that is what we would be doing. Odom is a very good player and normally an offer of KT + #15 would be laughed at. Perhaps it will be laughed at anyway. But it does give the Clippers "value" and at the same time not put themselves in a position to lose Odom to FA if they don't want to pay him. KT is a great "value" guy. He puts up good numbers at a cheap price, something that Sterling would love. Perhaps KT + #15 and Moochie would interest them. They need point help and Moochie would be a nice backup or starter for part of the season. Again, the ONLY way we are talking about this possible trade is because of the "circumstances" of the ownership of the Clippers, not on just "basic talent" alone of the players. krosfyah, And as for not wanting to trade KT....hey, if Odom is available you trade KT. No question about it. Taylor and Griffin will hold down the 4 spot just fine. And if you are really concerned about it you will resign Willis. Chris
I would make this deal in a heartbeat, but I'm not so sure that the Clips would. I really like this deal because it would appease the Francise while still drafting Ming. But if the Clips balk at this offer what about KT, Mooch and 15 for Odom and Keyon Dooling, on second thought I like this deal a lot more. The Clips would likely pull the trigger on this deal because they a veteran PG who could run the show for them and with three top 15 picks, they can trade up and get a very high pick much like what we did last year with Griff.
I have never really understood this whole thing about "well if the Clippers are not going to re-sign him, we can get him at way below his market value." Even if the Clippers have come to this conclusion already, there is no reason to throw away Odom at WAY below his market value. The Clippers have two lottery picks plus Odom to offer up in deals, I think they can do just a tad better than KT and 15. Even if they dont find the commodity they want this offseason, they can wait till next summer and do a sign and trade. Not to mention, Odom is a restricted free agent next summer. As fans we sometimes have this bad habit of assuming "well they couldnt get a better offer than ours." Oh really? Do we listen to Elgin Baylor's phone calls?
MManal, how many times have you heard improbable trades that almost happened, or did happen? A 2nd rounder and Roy Rogers for Pippen. Othella, Dickerson, Carr, and Price for Francis. A couple of first rounders and Cato for Rahim, ANYTHING is possible! Maybe the Clippers feel they're loaded with talent and just want to trade Odom for draft picks and a veteran or two, who knows? ANYTHING is possible! Shaq literally fell into the Lakers lap.
Sometimes "circumstances" can make trades interesting. Pippen for Cato, Wallace etc Kidd for Marbury Both those trades were done because of "circumstances" and both were uneven. Somtimes it happens. Perhaps the offer mentioned in this thread is not the best the Clippers have gotten, but perhaps it is! We have no idea. Chris
The thing is the Clippers will not pay for Odom, so they definitely don't want to pay for anybody they get in return. The only thing they would want are: 1. Stars that are on a rookie contract (no one is going to give that up for a underachieving Pot Smoker) 2. High Draft picks so they can pick stars with rookie contracts (Do you think any team would give up their top 10 pick for Odom so they can risk losing him when his contract is over) 3. Good role players that keep them competitive for cheap I think it KT + 15 can happen. It depends on how Baylor thinks KT would fit in.
If Eric Snow is good enough to open discussions for Odom, there's no reason something like KT and 15 can't be discussed. Even if the Clippers were dead set on a point guard, I'm sure we could find a third team willing to take a good young 15/7 power forward for an Eric Snow caliber point guard. A few possibilities off the top of my head: Mateen Cleaves, Darrell Armstrong, Brevin Knight, Charlie Ward, and Anthony Carter. KT at the least could get you one of those, if not a lot more, and there's no way Snow is more valuable than KT (or one of those players) anda top 15 pick. Regardless of how you feel about Odom's talent, the guy is available for Eric Snow. That should tell you the kind of trades we should be discussing.
Look the Clippers have TWO lottery picks already. They're trying to unload one or both. Why do they need a #15? Kenny Thomas? What's he going to do in the West? With the #8 the Clipppers can easily draft a true power forward.
One blurb in a David Aldridge draft preview does not mean it's being talked about seriously, if at all. I mean, yeah, offer it to the clippers, just don't be upset when you hear laughter before they hang up the phone.
I'm not saying that the deal would happen, but I think the clips would like to have KT back up Brand. Elton cannot play every minute of games.
