It's just I could never, ever live up to the quality standards you have set here so why even try? Your "I'm better than you so I'm right" attitude is impossible to defeat. And I'm stunned you didn't use your classic "foas" that you are so proud of. And it's not just a "one video and run". Quite often it'll be a "one photo and run" or "one link found at Drudge" and run. See, you aren't as smart as you think you are. As for the Obama video posted above, it speaks for itself.
Does that mean you agree with my assessment that there is no lying or deception occurring, that Obama has been consistent with his views and his reasoning, and that he and others pushing this reform are doing so for the betterment of America? Because that's what it said to me.
Problem with that analysis is that it discourages preventative care measures like regular checkups and physicals, since people would have to pay out of pocket and families on a budget might not be able to. In the long run, there would be more "catostrophic" cases to cover because of people not getting proper preventative treatment and thus making things more expensive for the government/insurers.
To be fair, "crack babies" have been found to be a myth. By middle school, kids identified as "crack babies" are, on average, no worse off than the rest of us. However, like you, I see the comparison of pizza to crack somewhat like comparing apples and submarines.
I work for the one of the largest companies in the world and just had to add my wife and 2 kids to my plan since she got laid off a few months ago. The total came out to be close to 500 bucks a month out of my check. I've been told that the company pays almost 75 percent of the costs of my benefits. So that would mean my benifits cost around 2K a month if I had to purchase them myself. How do families making less than 50K a year afford decent benefits at those rates? How do small business owners provide for their family and employees? The health industry is definitely out of control.
Of course it is an extreme comparison, and it is kind of dumb. However the point is obesity is a serious problem. It can lead to heart disease which kills more people than drugs, terrorism, drunk driving, and anything else you can think of. I think people need to be prodded a little stronger to understand the risk.
Off topic, but check out getting insurance outside of employment. I made the switch for my wife and kids several years ago and I am very happy. I currently pay $210 a month for the 3 of them.
Happy for you, but be VERY very careful. Some of these outside plans are recalibrated every month. So... if one of you, God forbid, gets really sick... you will get covered for one month, and then the next month, when the plan is "renewed," they will count your illness as pre-existing and then, no coverage for that illness. This is one of many fine print tricks I have either seen in person or read about in reliable sources.
I'm sure health care is fine the way it is...until you get some kind of chronic disease. Oh, you have heath insurance you say? Check out the list of illnesses that your "health insurance" declines... On another note, back in college, I lived with a bunch of foreign exchange students at a dorm. Most of them were English, some French; they asked me what do Americans do when they get sick... I simply replied "you die."
I don't see how its possible to get the coverage I currently get for less than $500 bucks considering my company probably pays between 1500 and 2K for it. My next door neighbor buys his own insurance that has a hefty deductible and out of pocket expenses and he pays 1K for a family of 4 and that doesn't include dental or vision.
Major owned you so bad. I mean, you must feel violated right now. I hardly agree with major on anything... but man, he just bent the conquistador over big time.
You should at least speak to a professional health insurance agent. It does not cost anything, does not increase your premium, and can help.
