If you're not building a true home theater "look" and don't care about making your room look like a theater, consider you can always find a cheap stand of any type and put the projector on it. There's no real need to suspend/mount a projector that I can think of other than for aesthetics. Find some cheap speaker stand, put some books on it, slap the projector on top, put it behind the seating area (or in between or in front, whatever), pray nobody knocks it over, and there you have a portable projector. Or as my friend called it, "The Ghettoplex", after he did it.
LOL - GhettoPlex. That failed. It was at Northline Mall. Anyway, it will be permanent in a large room, a reception hall, if you will. I am researching projectors and a budget to set one up myself. Thanks for the info, yo.
If you want to research projectors, try going to avsforum.com or for specific reviews, a place like projectorcentral.com is pretty good.
How would you dudes handle playing content on the projector for a large room like... like a ballroom or a special events center... would you have a small room with a console to play a DVD or a VHS recording, or would you invest in a DVD-integrated projector? I am talking about this one http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8981257&type=product&id=1218004379275 . Where do I buy RCA/Composite or RGB (red/blue/green+stereo/audio) 50 to 100-foot cables to send the signal to the projector? I sound like Lil Pun now.
My co-worker uses his projector to watch p*rn while his wife and kids aren't home. He says its scary.
i agree with this. generally, you're more limited to what you can do with the already integrated equipment.
With regard to cables... check out Monoprice.com. Just read the descriptions carefully as they have tons a varieties and you want to make sure you are getting what you think you are getting. Also, FYI, we have a drop down screen that lowers in front of a normal LCD TV. We use the LCD for daytime TV and "regular" stuff (i.e. history chanel) but use the projector at night for HD TV and DVDs. An electric drop down screen can be VERY expensive (i.e. several thousand dollars) as you need to get a tensioned screen so there are no wrinkles. If you have a bare wall, you have several inexpensive options: 1) Just show the movie on the wall as is 2) paint the wall with special "screen" paint (make it nicer by putting a black frame around the "screen") 3) Hang a screen (in a frame) from your wall. These options will range from free to probably no more than $500.
