I'm sure this is intended to be a silly thread, and I don't believe he's an alcoholic

but he sure does like the photo ops with a beer in his hand. Not the message the struggling American people need, imo

I am not struggling at all at the moment.

Perhaps you should go back to school and learn some new skills?

    really, this angle? really?

given that American's tend to drink more during times of recession (note the counter cyclical nature of alcoholic beverage stocks) I don't believe that the average "Joe the dumber" would care that he's drinking a beer. Now, if he was always drinking the highest end wine that was $$$$ per bottle and responded "let them drink beer", then we could validate your point.

I do think there is merit to the point that he is the most visual of presidents in regards to consuming alcoholic beverages and that may be a bad thing long-term.

Werd, the american people are struggling right now and Obama's perceived enjoyment is the wrong message for the American people. Our president must also struggle. He should be standing at an unemployment line or a soup kitchen.

There is nothing wrong with the President enjoying a beer every now and then, even publically.

If the President was visibly getting sloshed and getting in front of a microphone, that would be a problem.

    No story here...carry on.

An alcoholic is someone who drinks alone.

Obama bought a shot for the child sitting next to him. Clearly, he is not an alcoholic.

Alcoholics are bummers, with their twelve steps & eventual sobriety hanging just around the corner, harshing everyone else's good time. On the other hand, a social drinker is the life of the party. Bottoms up.

One can certainly be an alcoholic and only drink beer. But every report refers to him having "a" beer. Even if he drank daily, I doubt his tolerance is low enough to be an alcoholic on one beer a day. I doubt he's actually caught a buzz since he started running for president.

Obama drinks the way Bush wore military uniforms: just for the photo-ops. He's just trying to look like a regular guy.

    Exactly.

I do not drink very often, but even I believe that there is a world of difference between a guy having a beer everyday and the alcoholic that wakes up at 11:00 a.m. feverishly throwing ice into a cup of warm beer.
