I dont know what his international playing schedule is for the rest of the summer, but it is far enough off from training camp now to not worry me. As long as he doesnt play competitive ball all summer, staying in shape can only help. He doesnt play an exceptionally physical and banging game so I dont think the wear and tear and beating is so much.
yeah i noticed he wasn't giving 100% every play like he did normally. I think scola knows that this is just exhibition games. Their main goal is prob just to qualify for 2010.
Good point about not having rest. He might be totally drained and much worse injury prone due to all this rigorous basketball activities all year round. Regarding the double team, If makes his shots around the paint then you would see a double team imposed on him. It would really be a case to case basis but hitting at a 44% clip then it would be wise to double team him and forced the Rockets to shoot from outside.
the argentine national team is going thru a transition right now, letting some young ones into the team. Scola now not only is their main player, but he is also the leader of the team, he is constantly talking to the younger players telling them to take the wide open shot, directing their positioning on the court during the game he mixed up some low post moves with his jumper from the top of the key, he also attempted a 3 pointer (but i think the distance is a little shorter in FIBA) anyway, Argentina is playing again in a couple of days and I will post links for the next game, which i believe it's against australia our national team is preparing for the WC qualifier so australia will be a nice test
Scola is a noble person! He is the only star playing for this ANT. Like the last man standing, try to lead the ANT to qulify for the WC, and defend ANT's honour. In fact, the coming season is Scola's contract year. I think very few players would do the same thing in this situation. Respect!!!
Wow Scola has actually played about 4-5 years of competitive basketball in a row cause I remember him playing in the Fiba tournament before he joined the rockets then played a full 82 game season + playoffs then the Olympics then another 82 game season + playoffs and now this tournament, kinda amazing he be playing so much and not getting injured.
Because he does not heavily rely on his athleticism - he does not jump too high or dunk often, which is a very good thing to avoid injuries.
I think scola should just be resting in the summer. He's been playing ALOT of basketball, just like Yao.
Exactly. Scola was schooling the Lakers front line. I didn't understand why they didn't go to him more. With Argentina, Scola has the experience of being a go to guy for a team. We don't really see his full arsenal because hes probably the 3rd or 4th option by Yao, T-Mac and previously Artest.
Not entirely true. The Lakers definitely keyed in on and doubled Scola in Game 7 after Scola absolutely destroyed them in Game 6. I get your point, though. Recognizing Scola's limitations as a go-to-guy in the post is one of the reasons I was calling for us to add another post scorer before the news about Yao that changed everything.
They didn't double scola. Go watch the tapes or dvd's or whatever media you have. They don't have to double scola, nor would anyone else with a decent post guys. Utah didn't double him, hell they dont double Yao.
Of course you have to say that. It backs up your hundreds of your other posts. If Scola averages 20 ppg this year you'll still dismiss him as being not the high-flying 4 you want. Scola's overall game is probably the most underrated of anyone in the NBA, but he's also probably one of the best examples of good basketball. Watch, learn and remember. Then deny all you want to.
It doesnt prove anything and i like scola as a player. Scola is good at what he does and thats moving to open spots, running the lane in transition and despite his athleticism, hes a very good rebounder. I'm just saying that i don't buy into the he will force the double teams and he still struggles with longer players. 42% vs la and 44% the year before in the playoffs are not accidents. He's a good player, but teams arent going to all of a sudden start double teaming scola, he's not that kind of player. Kenny thomas was a pretty good post player, but teams didn't double team him either.
It´s quite messy that you state that teams are not going to double team scola because of his averages, but you put averages against team that did double team him for spurts such as Utah and LA. Utah did double team Scola evendoe it was his rookie season. And i am pretty sure Utah would double team him now. As said before, Smart coaches double teamed Scola.
