His FG% is really bad for a SG.

He is a knucklehead just like Von Wafer. There is a reason rebuilding teams like T-wolves and kings which has a big hole in the SG position let him go for free.

No need for McCants. We have Budinger on the roster who is pretty much molded into the same type of player as McCants is.

    Pass.

McCants is a DD-type player. That is, he would be like Von Wafer with even crappier defense and less of a concept of team play. When that blog called Stromile Swift the kind of player who would dunk on the other team and then be too busy flashing his gang sign to get back on defense, they must also have been talking about McCants because that is him to a tee.

Great point. The rookies have to develop so if the player coming in is not that far from the skill level of the rookies then I say pass too.

actually McCants couldnt be more different than Budinger when it comes to comparing wing players. Budinger reminds me of one of those spot up shootings like the next sasha vujacic. when his 3 isnt going to fall he's basically useless. Even if he develops really well he'll be another Sasha Vujacic or Jason Kapono.

McCants on the other hand I see huge potential. Minnesota was a mess these last few seasons and McCants didnt have the right guidance and system to display his skills.

    Not convinced? Read this:

    (Source Draftexpress)

Overview: A talented shooting guard who is still trying to fulfill his potential after missing his second year as a pro with a knee injury. Is almost completely back to where he was physically. Not the biggest player around, but makes up for that with very nice athleticism and an extremely high skill level on the perimeter. Stronger than most guards, and has a tremendous 6-11 wingspan. Has a terrific stroke and is an extremely naturally talented scorer, but is a bit too one-dimensional considering the tools he has at his disposal. Looks too much for his own shot, very turnover prone, doesn’t get to the free throw line enough, and doesn’t contribute much beyond the scoring column. Had a tremendous three year career at UNC. Was a dominant offensive player in the ACC from day one. Was a key component of the Tar Heel squad that won the National Championship in 2005. Had a decent rookie season. Rebounded extremely well from his injury plagued sophomore campaign. Has somewhat of a reputation for being a malcontent, and has had problems with his coaches throughout his career. Body language, attitude can look questionable at times. Will field quite a bit of interest when his rookie deal expires at the end of the 2009 season. With some slight adjustments to his mentality and technique and better teammates around him, could really blossom and emerge as a terrific prospect at the 2-guard position.

Sounds good but how come He has not stuck to an NBA team yet? He reminds me of those great college players that could not cut it in the NBA. ( ex. Bobby Hurley, Mateen Cleeves and so far JJ Reddick

von wafer never stuck with a nba team...in fact he still hasnt stuck now.....vons drafted by the lakers signed by nuggets traded to blazers and then we signed him last summer. now he still hasnt found a job yet.

mccants is still young and got all the tools to be better than von. ike diogu was given a contract why cant we give a former lottery pick a chance? low risk high reward. if he plays bad it'll only mean we get draft pick.

Hes just got some baggage...if our veteran leadership can lead his talents in the right direction then I dont see whycant we take a chance on him.

Jermaine taylor and chase budinger can go to europe for a year

The team can do that but the most important hole to plug in right now is the front court. After securing additional help at the front court and a spot is still free then as you said it, low risk, high reward.

I'm pretty sure the Blazers don't have any cap room after the Miller signing, so I don't think that trade would work. Not to mention the fact that Portland would never give up so much for so little (and I don't even like Bayless or Outlaw that much).

looks good offensively. But hows his defense? Even from that Draftexpress report, they only commented on how well his offense is.

At first I was like ehhh I don't know but then I found out that he's only 24, so hell yea. He's better than Von anyway. He got some moves. Von is only quick with his first step but he cant do anything else if they cut him off. Rashad has more upside than Von does. The only reason why Von is successful is because of our system. Von is nothing outside the Rockets anyway.

Very average. Hard to tell exactly how good the kid is because of the crappy systems he has been in. Makes you wonder if a player like Rashad would flourish and find his way, with all the good examples he would have on this team...
