Wade stickin' to his word and boy did he stick to it! No trades are happening! Fans shouldnt be shocked or surprised. Maybe once we get a farm system we can aquire players. As for selling? I dont know what they were thinking. Bye bye Valverde and Tejada come seasons end. And go ahead and call that Tejada trade a failure. Trade doesnt help one bit if you dont even make the playoffs, and I dont think we make the playoffs.

Well fellow Astros fans, the day has finally come where the Rangers are the best baseball organization in Texas, and that once and for all, McLame and Wade proved that they are more interested in filling the seats then winning a championship

As long as Drayton gets his money, he's happy. And no matter what, he'll always believe he has a winning team. I guess the one and only advantage we have over the Rangers is our financial situation isnt too bad compared to theirs, but they still field the better team.

I agree that making no moves was probably not the right decision, but I'm just curious on your views on the Tejada trade. A failure? The only player we gave up with any major league value is Scott, and Tejada easily been a better hitter than Scott in his time here. Plus, where would you put Luke? Our outfield is pretty set in stone with Lee, Bourn and Pence.

I understand the argument of giving up prospects for a aging veteran is not usually a good idea, but these guys have done nothing with the Orioles. Chances are that if we kept them they would have been called up, been disappointing, and we'd still have a little leaguer batting as our shortstop. Personally, Tejada has been a joy to watch over the last couple of years and I'm definitely not kicking myself (yet at least) over what we gave up to get him.

Here's Dick Justice's article that'll piss you off even more

"This isn't to say they've given up on 2009. They haven't. Ed Wade could have traded Miguel Tejada, Jose Valverde, LaTroy Hawkins and maybe even Pudge Rodriguez. Had he done so, he would have sent a message to fans that 2009 essentially had ended and that the club had begun work for 2010."

If you honestly believe the Astros had a solid chance to add anything that gets them within a ten miles of the 2009 WS ring, you are delusional.

I love all the pissy handwringing in this thread. Like Ric said: pathetic.

And here, let me save the trouble and pre-emptively post a quick summary of the response:

wwwwaaaaaaaaa! wah! waaa! waaaaaaaaa! i wanted Holiday [sic] for Buzardo [sic]! waaaaaa! Poopura! McLame is cheap! waaaaaaaaa! poopura is fat! we lowballed randy johnson! waaaaaaaaa!

    Whiners suck. That is all.

I really wish people on here would quit complaining about Drayton. He wants to win. He also wants to run a good business. He has done those things for over a decade. Our big move was Bud Norris for Russ Ortiz. Lets see if it works out. If it doesn't, maybe we'll see us trade some guys in August, and if it does work, maybe the Astros will find a way to add a small piece. Lets just hope Lance, Roy, Sampson, & Hawkins can get fully healthy, and that Norris is the number 3 pitcher we need.

Then I guess that applies to Wade too, cause all that little ***** does is whine about not finding the right deal........GTFO, we just wanted a concerted effort to land someone, but no, they are damned to eternal mediocrity

The only team we are competing with for a playoff spot that got substantially better is the Cardinals.

Surely there is tissue somewhere nearby. Wipe your nose and your upper lip.

    Moeller. Norris. Hampton.

That will net us 3rd in the division, maybe 4th. Exactly where we would have landed had we traded for someone else's has been like Rolen or Garland.

    Nobody's forcing you to watch.

Do you realize the Astros had the 5th best record in the National League last year and were probably within a hurricane of making the playoffs?

So we are suppose to just sit here take our medicine and accept crap? This team was not suppose to contend but it has and with a few shrud moves there was light at the end of the tunnel. Still I wouldn't complain if they would have traded Miggy, Hawk, Pudge and Val which could have helped get this team get cheap young talent but Drayton is so short sighted to understand that so we have to seat here and take it???

What baseball team are you a fan of? It clearly isn't the Houston Astros, so please stay out of Astros threads.

Please, *do* share what "shrud" moves were out there. Be specific.

No, you don't have to "seat here and take it". You can pretend McLane hasn't weighed the pros and cons of a freaking all-out firesale if you like, and you're entitled to air out your opinions. And, I'm entitle to summarize them:

    "WAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!"
