I know it sounds good but would you really want people tracking your every move? Stalking you? Every little thing you do being reported and analyzed? Does the Enormous benefits outweigh the Enormous Downside? Rocket River
I would rather be rich and relatively unknown than being famous. Like you said, you would have people stalking you and writing about how you sneezed 3 times in 15 minutes or auctioning off the kleenex you used to sneeze with on eBay.
I want to be famous for being a positive influence and for making a real difference in the lives of as many people as possible... Dont wanna be famous in that celeb gossip mag way.
I wouldn't mind being famous like Warren Buffett or even Stephen King. The type of famous person who is famous in name only. These people can still have relatively normal lives. There is pretty much no way I would want to be famous like a movie star.
I would love to be a backing musician on a worldwide pop tour. That way, I would get to see the world, play in front of thousands of screaming fans every night while making some serious cash, and yet I'd still get to maintain a normal life once the tour ended because no one would recognize me.
the thing is that you can almost NEVER return to your old life. if you could somehow guarantee a brief moment in the sun and then a return to normalcy then perhaps we all might consider, yet the sad fact is that: 1) the actual you and the public you are almost never going to be the same & 2) you have ZERO control over the perception of the public you. this means that almost invariably, being in the public eye would be dishonest and a burden. at the very least, you would have to settle for not having your privacy back, and moreover the helplessness of not being in control of the you the public demands. yeah, no thanks. but i would take the money and influence, yet as already mentioned those are no longer mutually exclusive.
If the fame came with about 30 million dollars, I am down. But if I am famous and not making that much money, then forget it.
I thought about this a few years ago when someone wanted me to tour Scotland saying that I could be a big star there. I never took the guy up on it since I doubted he could deliver on that but it did get me thinking about it. I think if I was younger I probably wouldn't be able to handle it but now that I am older I probably could handle great fame. I wouldn't like people prying in my life all the time but I think I'm old enough to be able to figure out how to keep my privacy and not do a bunch of crazy things in the public.
But these lame pop acts always have AMAZING tour bands. I'm pretty sure Madonna doesn't get her band by placing an ad on Craigslist...
Fame these days just isnt worth it. You have to be dishonest all the time, say fluffy stuff you don't really mean. Even worse, you really don't own yourself anymore. You can go from being famous to notorious, depending on how good your PR agent is.
If you were famous, why the hell would live in LA where all the paparazzi are. I would live here in Austin like Sandra Bullock did and no one bothers you. The guys that get stalked and stuff are the ones asking for it except for a few really famous people like Britney, Michael, and Brangelina.
But the problem is they can turn anything into a negative. You might be famous for something positive but then you're picking your nose at the local ball game and it's on TMZ.
