Well, I'll be going to school in the med center soon, and I really don't want to drive there and pay outrageous prices of parking there and still having to take a shuttle bus. My plan is to take a metro bus from near my house to school. It's about a hour and ten minute commute. I can use this time to sleep, study, or listen to music. My question is how safe are these buses? Do any of y'all take them?
My mom has been taking the metro from the stop and ride in Bellaire all the way downtown for years now and hasnt had any problems other than traffic or bad bus drivers, so i think its relatively safe
It should not be a problem, depending on what part of town you're coming from. I used to ride the bus daily years ago and it was relatively painless. Sure, they can be late and get stuck in traffic, but it will save you some money. If you can connect to the MetroRail at some point, I suggest that as well.
I take the park n ride 2 to 3 times a week from Harwin to DT and its fine...depending at what hour you take it you might get a seat by yourself or with someone if its during peak hours but everyone is cool normally. If your going to school full time you can ride for 1.60 instead of 3.20 each way so its a nice deal. The drive should be smooth but depending on the driver it can be slightly bumpy. As meantioned above it could be late almost never early so be prepard. Now if you're taking the regular route I am not a big fan of that but the one time I road it was ok...
I take the Metro from Kingwood to Downtown for college all the time. You can get nice 45 minute naps in before you arrive. The rail is kind of "interesting" (in terms of the people that get on) at times, and downtown is always going to be downtown...so I wouldn't be completely ignorant/oblivious to your surroundings. Other than that, it's a pretty safe and convenient method of transportation.
I used to catch the bus & train to work all the time. I love it. Especially downtown. You meet and see a lot of interesting things and people. The train has cameras and yes they work. Ive been on the train with a couple of crazy people and they cops would show up maybe 3 stops after a riot breaks out..OH man during football season its crazy. but most of the games are on the weekend. so you should be ok.
It's much safer than driving. If people drive SUVs to feel safer, they should feel even safer in Metro bus. There is no sedan or SUV that is gonna win a battle with a bus or the train. I would only worry about walking around at night and if you have to take a transfer route in a bad area. Freaks come out at night. A guy tried to pick me up while I was at the bus stop, but I am a guy. Another guy followed me in his vehicle from the bus stop. Both times I was taking the 82 Westheimer at Montrose. In Downtown around 10 pm, a guy up to this lady and me and was yanking his weiner. We laughed at him and he drove off. http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=6895102 http://www.click2houston.com/news/19905618/detail.html Other than that, I feel safe during the day at bus stops outside high crime areas like Montrose and the hoods. Nobody has ever bothered me at the other stops.
