I don't know about popcorn rappers but I did just get back from Florida and I found some potato chip rappers I bought them as a joke but they were the best barbecue chips I have ever had.
I found out today that Soulja Boy just turned 19... holy crap. while im not a fan of his shenanigans, thats friggin incredible.
This type of rap is also known as a ringtone rap, basically a beat that's catchy/you can't get out of your head and an annoyingly repetitive hook See:Hurricane Chris "Ay Bay Bay"
you sold me on elzhi. I am downloading the album from last year from Itunes. let me know if you got any other suggestions from him, or anyone else.
It's not exactly pattern rapping but anything from Andre 3000 (formerly from Outkast) is a good unique style of rapping.
No Doubt my man.....make sure and check out his work with Slum Village. He replaced Baatin on the album called "Trinity (Past, present, and Future)" so if you like El you can start there but pick up Detroit Deli and their self titled album (SLum VIlage) . I haven't checked out their new one "Villa Manifesto" yet. The Slum is definitely one of the most slept on groups out there. J Dilla (GOAT, RIP) produced the albums before Trinity which are classics but they're pretty abstract but pretty much define what passion is in hip hop. As a whole the whole Detroit sound that's out right now (Ehlzi, Dilla, Slum etc) represent what's good out about hip hop now. Reminds me of NY back in the 90's. You should check out anything from Dilla, Black Milk, Phat Kat, Esham, Proof (RIP), Royce, Guilty Simpson, Obie Trice before he tried to go mainstream, Wajeed, Platinum Pied Pipers....man I can go on about the D Let me see....check out this group outta Cali called "Living Legends". They're a super group made up of about 8 different groups. They got this cat from Japan that RIPS it LOL. If you know about Murs, Aesop, or Sunspot Jonz, they up in there. Nobody knows about them here but them cats are like the Beatles over in Japan Hmmmm, obvious but anything by Mos Def and Talib Kweli. But make sure and check out their "Blackstar" album. In fact if you can still find it, check out the Rawkus Records "Soundbombing" and "Lyricist Lounge" mix tapes but for real, you may want to Wiki "Rawkus Records" and check out all of the studio albums that they put out up until about 2006. They had one of the most impressive lineups I've ever seen at one point I could go on man but maybe that'll get you going. Legend215
Living Legends have been around for awhile. They are definitely at or near the top of the underground list IMO. Another suggestion for anyone wanting to find really good, obscure hip-hop, go download Pandora AND sign up for a Slacker account. Create a station for Underground Rap, sit back, listen and enjoy the new discoveries. Some of the artists have been out for years, but you'd never know it because of the mainstream crap forced down our throats by the cookie cutter producers, MTV and radio.
i say.. Yea buddy! Rolling like a big shot, chevy tuned up like a nascar pitstop Fresh paint job [check] Fresh inside [check] Is the outside frame in the trunk wide [yes] Are the rims big [what] Do it ride good [good] Lean back right hand on the pinewood. Believe me I know....used to hang out with half of them back in the day when we were doing shows out in Cali. Just making the point that not many people know about them still
Everything rap, takes a backseat to Slaughterhouse. Which consists of the most underrated rappers of all-time. Those being.... Joe Budden (Not Pump It Up Budden either, this is real Budden) Royce Da 5'9" (my favorite rapper all-time and the only rapper who could outshine Eminem on his own song) Crooked-I (siiiiick ass rapper) Joell Ortiz (alot of people haven't heard of him, he is probably the least talented of the bunch, but he can definitely rape Wayne, Jeezy etc.) A few more of my faves are Jurassic 5, Canibus (in his prime), Fabolous, Cassidy (2 rappers who definitely don't rap to their potential, but when they do, its greatness). I always get a good laugh turning the radio to rap stations when driving through Dallas. Imagining people bumping up and getting too much into it in a club is also a hilarious thought.
cool ill start with that. I actually just started listening to black milk a couple weeks ago, he's legit. I'll check out the rest. thanks.
