I went to the dentist awhile back and they said I have to have one of my wisdom teeth pulled, 1 cavity, and filling fixed. I told them maybe next time because I was transitioning to a new job at the time and I would have a new insurance. My new insurance just started and my appointment is for next Saturday. I was flossing this morning and my filling actually came out. No matter how well I try to take care of my teeth, there is always something wrong. What about you guys?
I went 13 years without going to the dentist. During that time, I brushed 2-3 times a day but practically never flossed. I also happen to grind my teeth very badly in my sleep as well as brush so hard I removed quite a bit of enamel from the side of my molars. I finally went in about 6 weeks ago and the tally was.... -9-10 small fillings (almost all for cavities between my teeth) -1 crown (almost turned into a root canal) -filing down one front tooth because of a small chip (due to grinding) -a fancy mouth guard I am supposed to wear at night All said and done it was about $2500 (only about $600 out of my pocket). It's great to have finally gone but it sucks because nobody can even tell because all of my damage was either between the teeth or on my molars (where I destroyed the enamel through brushing and grinding). It also took around 7 hours of total time in the chair to get all of this done. I won't put off the dentist again!!
I have never had a cavity. About the worst thing I have ever had was braces but that was purely cosmetic.
I'm 26, and I've never had a cavity, never had any major dental work done, and I only had braces for about a year when I was in 6th grade. Now my teeth are straight, and I never even really had to wear a retainer. All of my wisdom teeth are completely in, and I never even realized when they came. I've just been really blessed when it comes to my overall health and hygiene. I feel really sorry for people who have to have root canals, and cavities filled.....it just seems like a really unpleasant experience and I can totally understand why someone would put that off, and deal with the pain as long as possible.
Dave, Wow. That was all in 1 visit? $2,500 is well worth it in my opinion for all the work that you had done, I'm sure the hours leading up to getting to the dentist chair is pretty dreadful and you're just staring up at the ceiling while metal instruments and drilling noises are buzzing. But the feeling of leaving knowing that your teeth are finally OK is a good feeling.
I go to the dentist twice a year for routine checkup, xray, and cleaning. I highly advise this.
I read that black people don't get cavities becuase they don't tip enough to get good service to warrant going out to eat and having all that stuff that's bad for your teeth.
I am currently helping out my dentist pay for his BMW, and since last week I am walking on one leg and using ONE ARM only to type.
LOL! No, seriously I have always taken care of them because of people talking about how extremely expensive it is to fix something once it happens.
Future dentist here, I'll hook up my Clutchfans brothers once I graduate Most of y'all are lucky, you have some nit picky things here and there. Just a side tidbit here, if a dentist ever recommends extraction over a root canal, then DO IT!
I've never had a cavity in 28 years. I brush twice a day but I probably only floss the 2 weeks leading up to a cleaning and the 2 weeks after, which is terrible. I went about 4 years without going to the dentist till a couple months back and other than some serious cleaning, I didn't have any problems. A few of my teeth are chipped from grinding and probably eating ice, so I'd like to get that fixed at some point. That's purely cosmetic though.
I've never had a cavity in my entire life. There were times in college where I'd go long periods of time without brushing, dread the dentist, then find out I don't have any cavities anyway. To add to that, my wisdom teeth are fully in and do not need removing. I don't have an overbite or underbite, and have never needed braces. I'm pretty lucky.
I brush once or twice a day. Always at night, sometimes in the morning (I'll skip if I'm staying in all day). I never floss. Skipped going to the dentist for four years, and I still didn't have any cavities. I would suggest using a Spin brush. I have one of the cheap $8 Crest Spinbrushes and I guess they do the trick well enough.
when i was about four or five, my dentist had to do a couple of fillings, and i imagine i was uncooperative, so he literally put me in a straight jacket and drilled me to the chair. to this day, the dentist (specifically the smell) is the most horrifying thing in the world to me. i even have genuine nightmares about being in that chair a few times a year. i haven't been to the dentist in about 3 years, but i know i am just about due. i have pretty large teeth and thus pretty thick enamel, so i'm deluding myself that brushing is enough. i really need to make an appointment.
