I would say most expect him to be a backup center when Yao returns. I would also say most expect him to be the best healthy center on roster by far. I don't see this as an endorsement of Andersen's skills, but on the lack of competition. I'm just hoping for someone that can score effectively away from the basket and not get completely bulled over in the paint.

That's just the thing... who else are the Rockets gonna get with their money?

Gortat? I like they guy, but even if the Rockets offered the full MLE, the Magic would have matched.

    Pachulia?

    Nestoric or Ratliff?

The dude is going to make 3 million dollars per year for 3 years. Is this Andersen player that crappy according to you that he won't even be worth 5% of our payroll (and just 7.5% of what Les is paying T-Mac+Yao)? We're not exactly betting the farm on this guy producing big for us.

Is anyone else getting the impression Scola is about to get way overpaid after his contract is up next year? How much do you guys think Scola will be worth next year? I say the full midlevel, but he could get something more like the Millsap contract.

As an Aussie who saw Anderson's very first NBL games let me just say that he has come a LONG way.

I'd be surprised if he's not on the level of Pachulia. Anderson has a nice offensive game, can stick the 20' jumper and has a solid turn-around. A little bit shaky when a bigger defender is on him, and he is NOT athletic. But can pump fake it around the rim and get himself in position for a baby hook OR draw the foul and go to the line.

Defensively his feet get stuck and he reaches - he's an average rebounder for his height and won't contribute much as a shot-blocking presence.

Smart player who KNOWS how to defer to the hot hand, and won't hesitate when he's the one sizzling.

At $2.5million per season - yes sir.

Morey? Nawww, he'll just wheel and deal his way out of it making use of savvy 2nd round picks on the cheap when players have start demanding too much (Von Wafer & Taylor + Budinger).

Even if Andersen plays 35 minutes a game next season, if he can average more than 10 points a game with his shooting touch, and grab more than 5 rebounds a game, he would be a huge success for what we got him for. Everyone already knows that he won't be good on defense, so I don't think there is any expectation there. The team will have to play good defense and double team anyone that he goes up against that will torch him to death.

You are overrating Hayes and Dorsey's offense. Hayes has the ugliest free throw shooting form that I have seen. He's got a strange hitch at the midpoint that causes the opposing team get a lane violation. He doesn't have enough lift to get a consistent layup. His shooting range is 1 ft around the basket.

David Andersen has range out to the 3pt line. His FT% is near the top for 6'11"+ centers in the USA and Europe.

Good to hear. Sounds very similar to the Scola deal and hopefully with the same results.

He might only have a slight edge offensively over Hayes & Dorsey? Dude seemed like a straight shooter.

I know you're from Australia but i just can't believe you.

C'Mon Aussie this guy blows Hayes and Dorsey up offensively. I don't see Dorsey and Hayes shooting lights out 3-pointers like Anderson can......Why do you hate him so much you have put him down since he came over to the Rockets ? He can't suck that bad ........... :(

Since he's not better than Scola or Pachulia, 9 & 5 in 30 minutes a game is about all we can hope for.

Exactly ! Aussie is very highly respected on this board but to say this guy bareley is better offensively than Hayes and Dorsey is hard to believe !

I think one thing which is satisfying to know is that he has taken a pay cut. At least you know hes only going out to prove himself in the NBA and not for the money and fame.

Some of you missed my retraction - I was being a bit tongue in cheek about Andersen's offense, and I admitted the offensive gap was quite large between he and guys like Dorsey and Hayes.

I am just trying to lower the expectation of the many who think Andersen is going to be a steal on the level of a Scola.

Those expecting solid 15 - 20 min (max) backup level play will be shooting par.

Let me start to say that the Daily Telegraph is quite possibly the trashest newspaper out here. It is quite simply a picture book with crappy sensationlised stories in it. So any information in it is clearly not realiable. I read it everyday and I can tell you now the quality in it is CRAP. Ask any decent Sydney Sider and they will tell you the same thing.

Regarding David Anderson, if anyone really wants to see how he went I suggust you go watch the Olympics. He was there I think. It will give you a fair idea how he worked against the superior athleticism of the NBA athletes. I'm going to go on record saying his going to be an AVERAGE role player at best. His simply not good enough to play consistent defence that we come to expect from this Rockets team. He can shoot sure, it'll take him half a season to adapt to the speed of the game I think. But someone like Dwight or Chris Bosh will destroy him without thinking. I've seen him play in real life and like the DR has said its come a long way his game that is. But at NBA level? offensively i will say he can put up 10 pts and 8 rebounds. Which is a bargain for 2.5 million. thats being optimistic as well (with one three a game. A good comparison would be a poormans Okur

Agreed, having watched him play in Europe and the olympics. His skill level hardly matches that of Scola in which maybe people compare him too. I see him maximum putting up 10/7 with 1 block if he gets around 30 minutes.
