anybody else see this on bspn. I nearly shat myself... those names are too similar Cardinals Acquire Help in Holliday ... Holliday is good but Halladay would have killed the Astros chances
I think either one of those players makes them that much better...they already have 3 very good pitchers. Look at what Holliday did tonight in his debut...4 hits, a double, RBI, R. He instantly makes that offense scary. Playing against them in the previous series, I wasnt too worried about their lineup...but now you have an all-star OF batting behind Pujols. I think people forget very easily how much of a stud Holliday is...the guy is a star.
stud? mehhh. dude is a total zero away from coors field. holliday behind pujols doesn't worry me at all.
He was a .300 hitter away from Coors field the last three seasons he was there. Granted his power numbers took a bit of a hit away, but that's not a surprise. Don't know how you can call him a "total zero". He hadn't been a bad player in Oakland for the first half by any stretch. Holliday makes them instantly better, whether you want to believe it or not.
And you can't forget that they have DeRosa (.800 OPS) as well. He's not on Larry Walker's level when he was traded, but Holliday is still good.
Good pitching beats good hitting, yeah he makes them better, but not like Roy Halladay would have made them unbeatable
Would Halladay be a bigger pickup then Holliday? Absolutely. That doesn't mean snub your nose at the Cards for picking up the latter and not the former.
Obviously good pitching is preferred...but this isnt a situation where we should be like, "oh thank god, the Cards only got Matt Holliday, phew!!!". They are getting an additional big bat in the lineup and that makes the Astros job that much more difficult.
Haha man... it turns out we probably would have been better off if they had Halladay. At least he can only beat you in one game. Holliday has been deadly every single time up.
Holliday is 24-for-40 over the last 11 games and 21-for-33 as a Cardinal. Those are some staggering numbers. It's amazing to think he still needs to go 7-for-10 or 10-for-17 to match Berkman and Rose as the only players since 1957 to have a 31-for-50 stretch.
