ridiculous ticket. cop should be fired. ticket will be dismissed. 58 in a 65. i see worse every damn day of my life when i'm on the freeway. and, yes, it impedes traffic because i'm usually behind them wanting to get by. i'll be damned if i expect a cop to write them a ticket for going 7 MPH under the speed limit. dumbass cop.

So, it becomes a trade-off between worrying about a ticket or worrying about killing or injuring yourself or someone else. It's kind of an odd choice to have to make, really.

It would seem like the solution would be for police officers to only give tickets to those who are driving at speeds that are significantly outside the flow of traffic, but that's a lot harder to do than just sitting back with a radar gun and a set speed limit (though, it's my understanding that many police departments do just that on some roads).

High-speed relative to what? If the speed limit is 65 and the guy is driving 58 miles per hour, he's still going at a much higher speed than he would be if he weren't on the highway.

You seem to not understand the laws very well. A speed limit is the MAXIMUM speed you are allowed to go. It is not the exact speed that every car must be going and it is certainly not the minimum allowable speed as you seem to think.

By the way, I usually go 5-10 MPH over the speed limit on the highway, but I know that's against the law and I don't get pissed off at people who are driving at or slightly below the speed limit.

A cop almost gave me a ticket for turning too fast once.

Pulled me over, argued with me about the turn, made me wait over a hour as he searched my stripped car for drugs, gave me a ticket for no front license plate.

At the end, he said the reason he pulled me over was because I had no front plates. Blatant lie because he was behind me the whole time prior to pulling me over.

Going 58 in a 65 is only unsafe because most/some of the drivers on the road are going 75-80. Since they are violating the law and going above the speed limit it makes a driver going 58 unsafe, but if everyone actually obeyed the speed limit which they should there is nothing unsafe about driving 58. 7MPH is easy enough for anyone to be able to avoid an accident, especially if you keep a safe distance like you are supposed too, but i imagine all the people in this thread that are saying this guy diserved it and that everyone should go as fast as them, not only are you going faster than the speed limit but most of you ride peoples rear ends all the time and when you are going 75MPH by law you should stay what 5 car legnths behind the driver in front of you? thats more than enough time for you to slow down from 65(the speed limit) to 58. It might start to cause a problem if you are that close and going 75MPH to 80MPH, but thats your fault, not the person that is going 7MPH under the maximum speed for said road.

BTW, i drive 70-80 in a 65 all the time, its annoying to slow down from that speed to 60 when someone is in front of you going slow, but if you have any road vision at all you already know they are going slow and have time to switch lanes to avoid them. If there is no way around them, then you have to slow down period. If you dont have good road vision, you shouldn't be exceeding the speed limit in the first place and should stop blaming others for your shortcomings.
