leebigez That trade drops the Utah payroll by about 3 million from the current projections. From what I have read, that might not be enough of a reduction.
It definitely favors them, but we get something out of it too. If we can get Haslem as well it will help us a bit more.
You know I tried to fall asleep but this thread kept popping up over and over in my head (Sometimes I hate being such a huge Rockets fan!). Basically what it comes down too is what strategy Morey is gonna take. Are we rebuilding or arent we? Are we keeping McGrady? Are we resigning him? Where is this team freaking going! If are trying to snag a max level player in 2010, we have to lose either Scola or Battier due to salary constraints and that is only to have a shot at one, no guarantees. So unless Morey has some master plan we don't know about, we really need to stop and question what is best for us. If we are basically tanking 2009 without Yao and a recovering McGrady, looking to be back in the mix in 2010 then it hurts me to say that the Utah Jazz are our best trading partner. We NEED a star and they are offering one up. (Trust me when I say I am literally clinching my teeth thinking about the absolute blasphemy I am about to write.) If we ask ourselves those questions and we decide our goal is to put the team in the best situation possible to win a title as quickly as possible, then here is a possible scenario. A "Carroll Dawson" if you will. Lets say hypothetically we offered up this trade and they accepted: Scola + Battier for Boozer + the 2010 NY unprotected pick (Most likely a top ten pick) with the condition that Boozer must sign a 3 year extension. I would also hypothesize, in this scenario, that McGrady resign at a reasonable rate for something like 3 years - 21 million, or something along those lines. This year would still likely be a down year, because odds are either Tmac or Boozer will be injured. I would even maybe somewhere deep inside hope they both took "extra recovery time" to ensure they were 100% for 2010, also netting us another great pick. I won't utter the dreaded T word, but I think we all know that we are not going to be contenders this year. So assuming we made a deal with the devil and sent two of our absolute favorite players to the devil, where does that even put us? So starting fresh in 2010 you are looking at a lineup of: Brooks/Lowry McGrady/Taylor Ariza/Budinger Boozer/Landry/Hayes Yao/Anderson/Dorsey + (and this is the real kicker) with potentially 2 high lottery picks. I know what Morey can do in a draft having no picks and I shutter to think what he could accomplish with high picks to play with. Two lottery picks might even land you another star player if the right circumstances fall into place. Again, I am not even convinced I would do this, because how much I hate Boozer and how much I love Scola/Battier, but you have to admit it is a little intriguing...
That's absolutely insane. The difference between Scola and Boozer is probably worth giving Battier away for free. And that's not a knock on Scola either...
For the love of all that is good and proper - do NOT deal for Loozer. Do NOT deal with the j*zz. There are just some things that should be illegal.
This deal ain't gonna happen, but if it did: Yao/Boozer >>>> Yao/Scola Scola is one of my favorite Rockets too.
You know its the offseason has hit rock bottom when we are talking trades with the j*zz. Anyway we can't get Andre Kirisuckface also?
I disagree. Has Carlos Boozer developed into a number 1 banana on a good team since my last post? If so, it's news to me. Boozer has a higher upside than Scola, and is more athletic, but that's all that separates the two guys. They both have solid post up skills, can hit mid range jumpshots and rebound well. Neither one is a good defender. The athleticism and upside of boozer is not worth giving away one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA for free.
For what we give up and get in return I think its a good trade for us also. Scola / Battier for Okur / Brewer. We get a C taylor made for our offense and a young real 2 guard that we are currently missing.
Fair enough. I interpreted it as it was written. No big deal. Well actually I thought about Scola last night. I'd say he starts on half the teams in the league. He's better than the PF or C options in NY, NJ, DET, MIL, CHI, CLE(unless LBJ plays the 4), MIA, SAC, MIN, MEM, and GS for sure. Then you have a need at center in OKC, or a need at PF alongside Amare in phoenix. That's 14 teams I see where he would start. Battier is better than either the SG or SF options in NY, NJ, MIL, PHI, SAC, MIN, NO, CLE(over west), TOR(over DeRozan), and POR. Also, he would be a potential starter in Miami(sliding beasley to the 4), Phoenix(moving Barbosa back to his uber 6th man role), and Charlotte(for Bell). I agree completely that the focus isn't about this year. Also, I'm in favor of dealing Shane because I don't like the pairing of him and Ariza on the wings offensively and he doesn't fit in an up-tempo game. Taking that a step further, I will trade anyone if I feel it makes my team better. I just don't think this deal accomplishes that goal. I think Miles and Fesenko are nice projects, nothing more right now and it's not like Boozer is much superior to Scola in my eyes. I'd rather move Battier without Scola attached, unless combining the two gets me a big upgrade somewhere.
this is a much better return for us, but Utah would think it's too much. If you replaced miles and/or fesenko with the NY 1st round pick in lee's proposal, I'd make the deal.

Just got this tweet SportsUnplugged Rockets is in denial about rebuilding and having a shot at Wall next year in the lottery. Lets see how far Battier and Laundry get them. Dont kill the messenger....
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/...deny-interest-in-Boozer.html?linkTrack=rss-43 Despite their rumored involvement in a recent three-team deal that failed to materialize, the Houston Rockets apparently have no true interest in acquiring Utah Jazz forward Carlos Boozer. ESPN.com reported Thursday afternoon that unidentified sources within the Rockets' organization denied the team made any efforts to trade for Boozer. These same sources also denied interest in bringing Boozer to Houston. This comes on the heels of a trade rumor that arose earlier in the week, which had the Rockets participating in a three-team trade with the Jazz and the Chicago Bulls that would have sent Boozer to Chicago and Kyrylo Fesenko to Houston and brought Shane Battier and Carl Landry to Utah. ESPN confirmed that Miami's interest in prying Boozer away from Utah, however, is high and he ultimately could factor into their plans for this season. The Heat are currently trying to entice free-agent forward Lamar Odom away from the Los Angeles Lakers to return for a second stint with the team. If Miami can bring in Odom at small forward, the Heat could try to trade for Boozer in order to pair the two together in the frontcourt. Earlier reports indicated that the Heat offered Udonis Haslem and Dorrell Wright to the Jazz, but that offer was quickly rejected.
