Have you even seen larry bird shoot a basketball? Larry Legend had a beautiful release, and plus this thread is about personal preference. And in my opinion Bird has one of the most perfect shots of all time.
...I get this is in the NBA Dish, but really....Mavs love. You do realize they are highly associated with Mark Cuban.
Current: Kapono, Allen and Bryant Retro: Larry Legend, Calvin Murphy and Mark Price __________________ boom goes the dynamite
I actually didn't like the look of Larry Bird's jumpshot. It was effective, yes, but it wasn't the perfect jump shot to me. Ray Allen's shot is textbook. Closest to perfect IMO
Not textbook. In textbooks they tell you to keep your elbows in and not flared out.. and you don't push off with your off-hand thumb, both of which Ray Allen does. It just looks perfect because his form is so consistent and the same motions everytime (making it smooth).
He was mentioned on the first page. Jeff Hornacek had a great shot. So annoying at the FT line though (and in general)
Well, I don't look for prettiness. I look at players that are able to shoot out of double/triple teams. To me those are the people that has the perfect shot because no matter what they can get their shots off, even doubled/triple teamed. And Bird was doubled almost 40% of the time during games after his first 3 seasons, and was still able to nail jumper after jumper in peoples face no matter the defender or what situation he was in . IMO, Bird had the perfect shot for a SF/SG because of that ability. Same with Pistol Pete which is failed to be mentioned in this thread as well. Pistol Pete had the most underrated shot ever. so hard to defend the true show times jumpers.
Kobe Bryant... I learned how to shoot a basketball with great form by watching him... now my jumpshot is very similar to his... maybe 95%.. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5vdx_BlWKDw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5vdx_BlWKDw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/meyf9dNKygM&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/meyf9dNKygM&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> No other player has the perfect shooting fundamentals that Kobe does... Kobe has great form, great elevation, great spin on the ball... just the overall jumpshot, it's so smooth.... you can say Ray Allen has a great jumpshot... but Ray's shot a shot which isn't really adjustable... what I mean by that is.. if he was attempting a fadeaway or some sort of off balance shot... it's not likely to go in just because of the way he shoots it... it's meant to have a straight sling towards the basket.. where as Kobe's is so flexible... he can do just about what ever he wants.. high arc.. flat.. w/e... I've studied hours and hours of Kobe video and some of his how-to techniques too.
Other old timers: 1) Detlef Shcrempf ( spelling? ) 2) Hersey Hawkins 3) Kenny Smith 4) and for fun Bob Mcadoo and Jamal Wilkes ( spelling? )
I remember watching that game. He was simply awesome. That video makes me dream of the type of player Aaron Brooks could develop into.
