Nah, I don't think he really choked....he tied for the lead at the British Open at nearly 60 years old.....and then had a rough hole in a 4 hole playoff.

At least Watson has 8 majors wins so he's not a choker...

Cmon, the guy is 59 years old!!!

phil has 3 majors and he's known as a huge choker.

watson choked, there's no two ways about it. sad, but accurate. his nerves overtook him on 18, and he's completely lost in these 4 holes.

Wow. If your playoff is bad enough, can you be put in 3rd place?

There should be some sort of hay penalty.

It took the full 72 holes for his age to catch up with him, but it's obvious that it has now. Give credit to Cink, though. He's finished as well as anyone.

What is the record loss (# of strokes) in a playoff?

I know, I am kind of being a jerk in what was a great story. I really wish he'd just finished it at the last hole of regulation.

I love how people say that if someone doesn't win they choked. I wouldn't say he choked. He made the playoff.

I guess being houston sports fans we are used to using the term too much unfortunately.

Westwood bogeying the last 3 holes, yes that was a choke.

    Actually, there was...

Feel bad for Watson, but it was of his own doing. After playing as well as he did for 4 days, he just choked on 18. No way you leave that putt that short when the championship is on the line. Some of you apparently don't want to call it a choke because of his history. Call it what you want. IMO, that putt on 18 was a choke, plain and simple.

Congrats to Cink. His playoff performance has to be one of the best of all time.

OK I'm 56, golf is my life, Watson has always been about my favorite golfer because of who he is.

But the second putt on 18 was a choke.

I saw it on his practice putt, his motion went from a smooth shoulder rotation to a handsy pop stroke; then he made the putt that way.

It's OK, he played his ass off and showed why golf courses shouldn't just become long drive competitions. The playoff was all about Cink making birdie on 18 and Watson being crushed. They didn't even really need to play it, you can't come back from that.

I gotta go play tomorrow and see if I can post a number!

Tom Watson being able to almost win a major just proves that golf isn't really a sport. I've never really considered it to be one (along with NASCAR)

    (puts flame suit on)

Nevertheless, its pretty cool to see him do what he did. Just don't tell me that Tom Watson is an athlete. Or Tony Stewart for that matter.

I'm glad T.Watson lost. He has won too much, and it time to give other golfers a chance at the big time.
