http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4338838 Source: Wilcox agrees with Pistons Comment Email Print Share By Chad Ford ESPN.com The Detroit Pistons have agreed to a two-year deal with free agent Chris Wilcox, a source told ESPN.com. The deal is for $6 million over the next two years according to sources. Wilcox was signed as a replacement for Antonio McDyess, who left the team via free agency to sign with the Spurs. Wilcox is an athletic big who, at 26, still has some upside. However, he's coming off one of the worst seasons of his career. The previous three years, Wilcox averaged a little more than 13 points, but his numbers dipped to 7.2 per game last season in time split between the Thunder and Knicks. The Pistons are hoping Wilcox can provide some scoring and athleticism off the bench behind another free agent signing, Charlie Villanueva.
Yeah the Pistons had a bit of capspace after trading Afflalo/Sharpe. Solid pickup at a solid price. I wanted him here too but we could not match that money.
Crap! There goes our only chance at having a real center next season. Whoa, did I just call Wilcox a real center? Man, this offseason sucks!
Chris Wilcox doesn't play defense. It's not like he cant but it's more like he's usually lost and doesn't know how to. But at that price, I can't see a downside of this deal.
He's a chump. If Chris Wilcox had a motor and played hard all the time, he could make a name for himself. But he doesn't and will never amount to much. I think it's incorrect to say he has upside. He will play well for 2-3 game stretches, but is incapable of being productive over long periods of time.
You have to consider the minutes he's played at different times. He'll give you Carl Landry type production - less hustle but taller and a slightly better post defender. Like A3PO said, he's just wildly inconsistent. He'll look great one game and look like a scrub the next. I think it evens out to decent production though and that's all you can expect at $3M for a big man.
Does anyone have any clue what Joe D and the Pistons are doing? His signings this offseason have been overpriced and not "splashy." The players he's getting seem to be getting redundant, Gordon/Hamilton and Maxiell/Wilcox. I was expecting moves like signing Hedo and Miller, trading Prince for Boozer, and not overpaying for a 6th man - Gordon or trading away Afflalo. Add in a few vets for LLE or vet minimum (Rasho, Fabricio, Petro, etc) and possibly challenge some contenders with a good coach. Miller/Hamilton/Hedo/Boozer/Nesterovic or Oberto Stuckey/Gordon/Afflalo/Maxiell/Brown
It is a pity. Wilcox could have added depth on the front court of the Rockets. He could have been a good back up or a starting center until David A. gets his feet wet on NBA basketball. Well, There is always Dorsey.
so you are telling my athletic guys from maryland are dumb as a brick I dont believe you signed, chris wilcox steve francis joey dorsey
