From an era when the world, and this country, was genuinely scary enough for news to matter, and the audience was captive enough to care.

It might be safe to say that journalism is officially dead now.

Not as long as Mike Wallace is alive and kicking.

What a pity. There was brief window when the American Establishment could be represented by single person and he was that man. RIP.

not really, he worked here for a time, but he wasnt born here nor did he live here for a long time.

    a true legend....absolutely.

He is the reason why I have little respect for most news people, I grew up watching Uncle Walter....he told it like it was, he didnt need to spruce it up or look for an angle...he just reported the news like it was.

I pity you young guys here, yall didnt get to watch him. Those of us who did all feel really down today...a legend has passed and there will never be another like him.

RIP Uncle Walter...you made an impact in my and many other's lives.

and that is the way it is. :(

    RIP :(

What a class act. One of the last true journalists from back when news wasn't entertainment. Talk about integrity..

"Our job is only to hold up the mirror – to tell and show the public what has happened."

"America's health care system is neither healthy, caring, nor a system.""

He retired before I was born, but I remember seeing him show up occasionally on CBS, particularly the John Glenn shuttle flight. A true legend, RIP.

A sad day. As another article I read stated, you can't name another journalist that was also regarded as the most trusted man in America.

    RIP.

A sad day for journalism. I had posted a thread awhile ago that said that Walter Cronkite was gravely ill. I hoped he passed away peacefully.
