Im thinking about going today, but I dont wanna make the longgg a*ss drive down there and have it be flat. The surfcams are unreliable. Does anybody live in the Galveston or Freeport area know if its gonna be up soon?

Grew up near S.Padre and used to boogie board everyday back in High School.

The waves were much bigger in the early 80's...or I was a much smaller person. I dunno...

Go ahead and go to Galveston. I say it won't get any better than this.:(

Get on it while you can....because June and July are the most inconcistent months of the year and any little wind swell during this time should be taken advantage of.

http://www.netsurfing.com(cam based in surfside) has it pushing waist high, so if your out of school for the summer -- go for it. just go ahead and go down if you can, the winds will calm down by late afternoon and you can have you a nice fun evening session.

It won't get consistently good again till late August and September, right about the time your next school semester begins. ;)

A-Train, some people spend their lives waiting for waves while most people spend their lives waiting for nothing. ;)

I went, got some good rides (longboard though) Lots of people for some reason...maybe because everybody's out of school. Yeah I skipped the whole first semester of my senior year to go surfing down by the Flagship, and in Surfside.

I bought a surfboard this week.

I grew up on the beach and it's in my blood. There's no place else in the world that I can relax as much as on the beach.

I surfed in High School and a little bit in college, but for some reason I gave it up.

Last summer we got a beach house on the west end of Galveston and I brought my wife's standup paddleboard. The waves were decent so I decided to give it a go, and lo and behold, I could still get up and cut a little bit. Granted, it was like being on an oil tanker, but it brought back all of those memories.

Anyone surf the Gulf? Anything new I should know about?

I believe the flagship is still the cool part of the beach to go to.

Yep. The Octagon at surfside was the best spot to go to (back when i surfed in the 1990’s). Doubt the house is even there anymore to mark the spot.
