Budinger is more important to a team than Greene, he will be a quality role player that excels at playing his role and making the team better, he is a sure bet. Greene will either develop into "THE MAN" or he will bust out....IMO. Guys like that have higher ceilings but are not usually able to adjust to being a role player. So for me, Chase is an absolute keeper. DD
Budinger is a new fans favor. Without Yao and Tmac, the rockets depend on new faces like Budinger to sell tickets.
He will have to earn that distinction during the regular season. Right now, He is a fan favorite but not enough to sell tickets. If He can translate his Summer league game into the regular season then expect a growing number of fans that would buy tickets.
I HOPE SO!!!! Flip him while you can. Before he starts getting burnt to a crisp trying to guard Richard Jefferson, Josh Howard, or any other western conference swing man.
Summer league play needs to be taken with a grain of salt. The Artest deal was just the right deal at the right time and had little to do with Greene blowing up for 40 PPG in summer league play, IMO.
A couple of points here. 1.) I don't know why a team would give us much for Chase - nearly every team in the league passed on him in a "weak" draft a month ago. Being an efficient summer league player isn't anything that is going to set the world on fire. I agree that he was a real steal for when we got him, but I don't think teams are burning up the lines to grab him from us. 2.) The only reason the Artest trade went down is because the Kings knew he was going to walk so they figured they better grab the prospect and Houston's 2009 #1 pick in exchange for basically trading expiring deals(Artest & Bobby Jackson). With that in mind, Artest's value was definitely a lot less than his talent level because of his baggage. He came that cheap to us because of the huge risk he posed not only because he's kind of crazy, but because he could walk at the end of the season(which he did in this case). With that in mind, is there a player out there that you honestly think we could use next year when we are clearly rebuilding - knowing that anyone else close to Artest's talent level likely won't come as cheap? ....can we trade Chase? Yes. Will get us someone close to Artest' talent level? No way. Even if by some odd odd chance a guy like maybe Ray Allen was available for talent/picks and an expiring deal, would we really want Ray Allen for one year in the middle of what is certainly a rebuilding year? It wouldn't do us any good - maybe win us a few more games but we still don't make the playoffs. What's the point? Just get used to the fact that Chase will be a Rocket for at least the next couple of years and we aren't going to pull some major star out of a hat for nothing.
WOW !! Thats so sad we will start seeing Budinger Jerseys in the Rockets Shop at the TC this year as the Rockets star ...... sad, sad, sad
I would trade Chase for Lebron, Kobe, Wade, and thats' it. Other than that he looks like the real deal and I wouldn't trade somebody coming off 72% from deep thats most peoples free throw percentage. okay all bs aside I like Chase and would at this point probably rather trade Shane.bbbbb
Before Greene got traded he got on the wrong side of Adelman. McGrady is the player they need to move especially since he's not being re-signed.
I would prefer just go all out and rebuild. Do not let Yao or Tracy play this year. Make the trade I state below and end up with a high lottery pick next year and try to sign a superstar in free agency. Kyle Lowry, Luis Scola and Shane Battier for Jerryd Bayless, Rudy Fernandez, Nicolas Batum and Portland's 2010 First Round Draft Pick PG - Aaron Brooks/ Jerryd Bayless SG - Rudy Fernandez/ Chase Budinger/Jermaine Taylor/Brent Barry SF - Trevor Ariza/Nicolas Batum/Tracy McGrady PF - Carl Landry/ Joey Dorsey/Brian Cook C - David Anderson/ Chuck Hayes/Yao Ming After making this trade, we still have our 28 million in expiring contracts that could be valuable enough to pry away a player like Chris Paul (with the stipulation that we also take contracts like Tyson Chandler and/or Stojakovic) from the Hornets at the deadline or we can just go forward with the plan to let the expiting contracts go and try to sign an elite player like Chris Bosh in the offseason. Next Off-Season Sign Chris Bosh PG - Aaron Brooks/ Jerryd Bayless SG - Rudy Fernandez/Chase Budinger/Jermaine Taylor SF - Trevor Ariza/Nicolas Batum PF - Chris Bosh/Carl Landry/Joey Dorsey C - Yao Ming/David Anderson/Chuck Hayes **Also add rookies from 2010 draft** This is an young elite team with our own version of the twin towers as well as having every wing player be a good shooter. Look great to me!
I don't think Greene's ceiling is even much higher than Chase's. Greene is a tweener. He's plays like Dirk Nowitzki, but lacks the frame and size to be a true PF or the quickness to defend the elite perimeter athletes of the league. He has a nice stroke and good overall game but he lacks the overall feel for the game and passing ability that Chase possesses. They're both equally susceptible on defense on my opinion.
Yeah, Let's do it. We can get a solid vet for a 1 year rental, make the playoffs and out of the first round.
I don't think so. Greene has proven to be a disappointment, but Budinger doesn't have much upside. A young vet would be nice as compared to an older pro like Ron,but that is highly unlikely IMO.
First up I don't think there is a team out there that is so desperate to get rid of a star player. Next you'd only get a deal like that if the player in question only had one year left on his contract. Also, unlike last year, Chase actually could fill a role on this team, long term, which is what Morey is probably now considering. If Yao is done, the team needs a new identity and the best way to do that is with younger players.
He doesn't even have a contract yet so who knows. Another thing is another team must want him and the Rockets must want to get rid of him. It takes 2 to trade. Always remember that. Last but not least don't let summer league games fool you
Even if the Rockets could land a veteran (rental) player of Artest's caliber, why would they want to? We should really be focusing on stocking piling draft picks or young talent if at all possible.
