I think he would if it meant helping the Rockets. I dont think Morey is that shortsighted when doing deals where he wont deal with this GM because they screwed us out of Roy and Fernandez etc... If sending Shane to Portland helps the Rockets plans of rebuilding/retooling than thats what Morey will do. Personally I find it hard to believe that he would send Shane for just Cunningham and the cap space. I would venture to say that there are plenty of other teams out there that covet shane that would exchange expiring contracts and at least a first round pick for Shane. You still get the cap relief and you get a first rounder. If its Cunningham and another player (outlaw, webster or fernandez) than I can see it happening, Houston can take back less salary while getting a player that can help now and a young prospect. Also if there is truth to this move than I believe that Landry will most likely be packaged for someone else because if you look at Cunningham's strength from nbadraft.net that to me sounds like a lot like what Landry brings to the Rockets right now. We are not going to have two undersized PFs off the bench with the same skill set. If Cunningham is brought in and locked up in a 2-3 year deal at a smaller salary you can count on Landry being move for a future asset or a player and a position of higher need. I think Shane's value is higher than that, this may be a backup to if Utah retains Millsap and maybe even if they dont. I think a lot becomes clearer in about a week when we'll know if Millsap is in Portland or not
Are you implying that Clutch just made something up and photoshope it? If you recall there had been previous attempts to trade for Amare so there was some logic to that and I'm sure he really has better sources than we do.... Just because it didn't happen doesn't mean they did not try...
the blazers will not move Aldridge for Battier even if they get Millsap..I think that would be a step backwards getting Millsap and Battier if it meant losing aldridge and someone else (Aldridge is on the last year of his rookie deal, salaries do not match)
No, I'm saying that you don't need a link to substantiate a rumor, b/c posting something before a deal is made is premature, and obviously a deal fell through
So, now what??? I'm guessing Pritchard will get even more desperate, since he has failed horribly this offseason
But does simply moving Battier to get rid of his contract at this point really seem like the best option for the Rockets? IF having his contract will indeed keep us from signing a major FA next year then I guess im ok with this move. That's the ONLY way that I could understand why we would make this deal.
He's a small forward in the Marvin Williams mold, so he wouldn't be taking Landry's spot, from reading about him he is just like a younger Shane and can guard 1, 2, 3, and I'm not sure about 4.
I know you guys think that is not enough for Battier, but this is actually a really fair trade when you think about it. We get a younger guy in the Battier mold who fits our rebuilding theme, and the incredibly young Trailblazers get a veteran defender and leader. The reason I like this is because he is a really solid defender and has more spring in his step than Battier allowing him to be a good shot blocker as well, he has more tools and appears to be more of a scorer than Battier.
I just don't see Morey trading Shane away, it was Morey himself who said Shane will be one of the guys leading the locker room. I think the management feels his worth ethic rubs off and inspires- always got a chance with defence- where good things can happen, turn the tide and set the tone of games. Can't really put a price on him at the moment, but if he goes- then i dont know this team anymore
