You know if you waive him, Les Alexander still has to dish out around 18-20 million dollars just to buy him out, IF Tmac really wanted to, he could ask for all 23 million...he has all the leverage. So, if you were a boss, would you just pay your most talented employee 90% of their full salary to NEVER work for you again and possibly go help out a rival team for chump change salary? Or would you allow him the chance to return from workers compensation, and try to give you work at a high level for 75% of the calander year to help you compete with your rival companies instead of being the laughing stock of your industry?? You would be a TERRIBLE boss if you still agreed with your stance even after reading this post. What did Tracy Lamar McGrady ever do to you personally?? lol.
The knicks are the 3rd worst NBA franchise behind the Clippers and the Grizzlies...I wouldn't be trying to emulate anything the Knicks do, lol.
McGrady only plays every other game (if that) anyway. I'm sure Les can make some coin on the suckers buying the number 3 jersey and get a little bit of the loss back.
Oh and considering that if he doesn't return for a good while, McGrady, should have their salaries covered by insurance next season, iirc. That gives him a good 25-40m of cash to spend freely to get the team as competitive as possible given cap and tax restrictions. Waiving him = stupidest idea anyone can think of, easily.
Letting his contract expire is not a bad thing neccesarily. There are tons of free agents next year for us to tap potentially. So by staying put, we could possibly be getting the BEST deal if we somehow land chris bosh or dwade. At this stage, there's not much we could get out of tmac other than another bad contract(s).
Next season's tickets have already been sold (under assumption of Yao being on the Roster), AND I still expect the team to be very competitive, it could be a very profitable year for Les. By those insurance numbers, I'd expect our roster cost to only be about 45-55m. Again, I'll say it for the 100th time, waiving him = stupidest idea, you need to hop off that bandwagon and think rationally.
i understand that i do think that mcgrady will be moved the economic landscape of the NBA and with the cap shrinking and his massive expiring contract will force some team to pull a move they do not want to do for the sake of saving money. if in the odd case he doesnt get moved then I think it would be silly for the rockets to buy him out just so he could play for another team. I mean we all know you have a a thing against Tmac and rightfully so he hasnt really been the best model employee here. But personally what if he does get bought out, signs with the lakers and helps them win another title somehow coming off the bench? that would make me a lot madder than just seeing him in a suit on the rockets bench for the rest of the season. I do not want to see the Rockets pay the guy money to potentially win somewhere else without getting anything back in return
I think now that the draft is past, any Tmac trade is most likely to happen around the trade deadline. It's hard for any other team to justify a Tmac trade at the start of the season to their fan base, and not really any benefit to the team either. Can you imagine trying to sell season tickets to a Suns fan after trading Stoudemire for an injured Tmac before the year even starts? Or trying to get Nash to sign a contract extension for that matter. By the trade deadline how ever, many teams are for all general purposes out of it anyway and Tmac at least will be close to coming back if not back already. Alot easier at that point for other teams to sell to fans that they are setting up for the next year by taking on a Tmac expiring contract.
He played every other game LAST YEAR. Unless you can predict the future, he may play 65 games this year, he may not play more than 1 game...who knows. From what everybody is saying, there is a chance he won't miss more than a month, maybe he's even ready early in the season. You don't waive a guy until you see what he can do. Plus we'll get insurance for his salary if he misses x amount of games. But like many others have said, waiving Tmac = stupid, dumb, idiotic, idea...says a lot about your bball knowledge, lol.
It's more likely that he would just ride the bench if someone else picked him. If he did see playing time, it would likely be to that team's detriment.
You freaking kidding me? You know it was not only Billups, I believe it was Billups and Hamilton. When is a multiple champion and finals MVP ever OVERRATED? you know who's overrated? a scoring champion on a bad team who has never lead his team to any form of playoff success in his entire career. Two things wrong with that. you compared D-Wade to McGrady and Tim Grover trains many people, doesn't mean they'll win championships after rehab. Uh saving the SG position for Tmac? Hello Trevor Ariza. This means that Tmac wins, he beat Morey and licking his cookies and splashing the pot. I hope you are not referring to me, but if you are, find me that quote and post it.
What does the fact that I've been consistently proven right on this subject the past two years say about it?
You are thinking about the play-off game when he scored 40 points, if I'm correct this is the footage from the 47 point game during the regular season. By the way, they won this game T-Mac is going to be fine! He is going to comeback next year and lead us to the play-offs and all of you haters are going to jump back on his tip like always. As a matter of fact I'm writing down your name now as one of the possible filp floppers!
I believe Marbury's contract wasn't expiring, that is why the Knicks bought it out. It was set to run thru this year and Marbury's behavior and history made Tmac look like a team player by comparison.
Since when did people think we couldn't make it to the playoffs with Tmac? It's actually doing something in the playoffs with him that's the main concern. But if you are happy that we make the playoffs and not win any series while Tmac scores tons of points that's great.
So is your boy Yao who gets frequently called the best center in the league, when he is far from that. Anyways, what's the point of bringing up McGrady into this? We're talking about Billups, not T-Mac. That Pistons team was led through a team concept, they didn't do sqaut until Rasheed Wallace was traded there, it wasn't just Billups taking that team to the championship run, you want to bother looking up how he did in the '07 ECF? Probably not, he choked to an inferior Cavs team, and then chocked the year before to an inferior Heat team. He's overrated, because he gets praised constantly for single handily changing teams, when he isn't even the best current player on the Nuggets. He helped contribute a run and added leadership to that team, and a player that is rationally capable of running a team, whereas Iverson wasn't able to do that. Who stated anything about winning championships? I'm about 100% sure you have absolutely no idea who Tim Grover was before I posted that. Let's assure some things: He's one of the most expensive trainers in the sport and athletics field, he's known to train players hard to recover from season ending surgeries, if McGrady is paying this guy, he's getting exactly his money's worth. He's already ahead in his rehab process. LMFAO @ this statement, wow you have an irrational way of thinking if you think Battier and Ariza are capable of starting next to each other and get points on the board, that's not going to happen. Ariza and Battier are both offensive liability, they benefit tremendously from a perimeter play-maker who can set them up with shots. LOL saving it for Ariza, just wow. What's this rant over? LOL wow you're more delusional than I thought. I stated that in '08 he led this team to a 55 win season, 4th in the western conference, 8th in MVP voting. With this same team intact, I'm stating he can possibly duplicate another season similarly if he returns normally.
With no Yao, getting to the playoffs is a great thing. If McGrady can lead the team to the playoffs and Yao can actually be back by playoff time, then this team can actually make a run. Wait, they could have done the same thing if Yao PLAYED IN 2008.
